Trojan viruses

Tonight, my nephew clicked on a link which took you to that fake 'you have a virus on your computer' thing which makes it look like it's coming from your computer. I immediately closed internet explorer which asked me if I wanted to leave the site as it has a virus. I don't understand that. Anyway, it was the same fake 'you have a virus' that I ran into a few months back and a the good people of this forum helped me lots.
To be on the safe side I ran Avast which picked up 3 trojans. 2 were from my nephew's account and 1 from another account. I am concerned about the one from the other account as purchases were made yesterday (from said account) and it was only tonight was the trojan was spotted. Do you think I have reason to be concerned and should my bank be notified?
I have used Paypal as well. Do you think they should be notified too?
Should I also be concerned that my protection didn't stop those trojans getting onto my computer? I have run Avast and Super Anti Spyware and currently running Malwarebytes. My computer crashed whilst running Malwarebytes before it had finished but it did find a virus.

    Run Hitman Pro now: www.surfright.nl/en/hitmanpro
If you have trouble, then hold LEFT CTRL. Clean all it finds, then try Malwarebytes again with a QUICK scan.

If that fails, then try Malwarebytes in Safe Mode, or use Rkill:
    http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/download/anti-virus/rkill

At some stage you might want to run:
    http://public.avast.com/~gmerek/aswMBR.htm
    http://support.kaspersky.com/downloads/utils/tdsskiller.exe

Post any logs except for the aswMBR/tdsskiller (just tell us the result), also post a Hijackthis log after you've done all the above (save to desktop, run as administrator, Scan and Save Log, don't Fix anything http://www.trendmicro.com/ftp/products/hijackthis/beta/HijackThis.exe)

I forgot to say I made purchases and used Paypal yesterday with other account. This account has not been used since then (only my nephews) so trojan had been on computer before this discovery and before I made purchases. Should I notify my bank and Paypal?
RussJK - I have ran all you have mentioned plus Spybot.

What files did Avast find, what did it claim they were, and what were the file locations?

Could you restart the computer in safemode, and upload this to www.virustotal.com
    C:\Windows\system32\Macromed\Flash\FlashUtil10p_ActiveX.exe

As for paypal, just change your passwords - and make sure all the transactions have been your own.

Avast found 3 trojans - 2 in nephew's account, 1 in other account. Anti Spyware and Hitman Pro found adware tracking. Lots of it. Everyone else has found nothing.

This is how much I know about computers... how do you restart in safe mode?

Did avast just call them "trojan"? It matters what the filenames were, and where they were located. Look in the 'virus chest' and you'll be able to see.

To start in safe mode, you restart the computer, and keep hitting f8 until it gives you the Option to start in 'safe mode with networking'. The desktop and graphics will look different in safe mode, so don't worry.
