Conveyancing Solicitor

                    Hi all,
I've had notification from my estate agent that my chain has completed in my house move and now need to find myself a solicitor.
I've had in mind to use a local firm after reading some horror stories for online firms but the difference in price is huge at about £1400. when I sold my first flat and bought the house I am in now i used an online firm through my works 'employee offers scheme' and all went well.
I don't mind things moving a bit slower if I can save myself upwards of £1000, but thought I'd thow it out to others to get their advice.
What are your views?

            You do have to make sure that you are comparing like with like when bandy about figures like £1,400.RICHARD WEBSTER
As a retired conveyancing solicitor I believe the information given in the post to be useful assuming any properties concerned are in England/Wales but I accept no liability for it.0 - 
            I have a few more quotes back and have settled on a company that charges £550+vat on the sale and £550+vat on the purchase (plus searches0

            That is usually about the lowest fee you will get from someone quality...just make sure you get value for your money:
- qualified conveyancer
- not closed at lunch or dead at 5pm
- one allocated lawyer start to finish
- direct dial and personal email for that lawyer

Is this standard, or does it give them a licence to make the fees whatever they like them to be in the end?0 - 
            Conveyancers and removal firms are falling over themselves for business at the moment - something to do with a disasterous slowdown in the housing market.
I am using a company called NBM Eason for my purchase (Paul Eason) from Ashby-de-la-zouche. So far so good, having exchanged and a couple of weeks until completion. Unbelievably cheap fees. I have not been in a huge rush though and not sure how things would have worked if I was.
Looking at using McArdle estates, Coventry for the removals - anyone had experience of these people ?PLEASE DO NOT STEAL

no this is common sense. you did ask them to quote upfront without sight of any papers or how complicated it might get. You'd do the legal work yourself if you could but as you cannot, you need to pay for someone to do that. be fair to them and they'll be fair to you....'cept when you fail to back yourself a decent conveyancer such as a solicitor or legal executive.
