I listen to audio books in the gym, usually Stephen King.

I wouldn't consider anything but dance music. I find when I'm in the gym I need a real fast solid baseline to keep me going. Anything else just doesn't cut it. Basement jaxx as suggested by the other poster is a good choice. If you really don't like dance music then I'd suggest going for some pop music with a good beat to it. If you don't have the repetitive fast beat you just won't push yourself. Try changing your music and i guarantee you'll run for 20% longer than normal.

Gym music needs to be up tempo - otherwise you get slower and slower!! I don't use a gym, but coach athletes and in winter we do some killer circuits. I now have a massive collection of house/garage/ rave music as it keeps them going when everything hurts! The other side of this is that i quite like it now.... get some strange looks when driving along with some of it in the car, as I'm, shall we say, the wrong side of 50.... :rotfl::rotfl:

My mum listens to music that reminds her of my brother in the car (quite loud:o) sometimes. She is also the wrong side of 50 and my brother is the happy hardcore fan. She also drives an ancient dented nissan micra and is in post 16 teaching so has to dress smartly. She gets some seriously weird looks :rotfl::rotfl:

Personally, I think that "angry" rock/metal, or nice fast dance is the best, generally...But I love "let's get it started" by the black eyed peas - always gives me an extra boost toward the end of a workout...

Personally, i think a playlist made up entirely of Bon Jovi is appropriate for any occasion.

I should probably see a doctor about this :P

    No.. sounds good to me..

How about a bit of Nickleback, Guns n Roses, Snow patrol and Counting Crows thrown in for good measure?

Though mine is for bus journeys.. I do NOT go anywhere near a gym!

If you go onto itunes and type in workout or gym music there will be lists of stuff for you to choose from, however, if you were looking for something like 'the birdy song,' or 'save all your kisses for me' type music, you might be disappointed

Actually, having just done some training and listened to
    No limits - 2 unlimited
Got to get up (tall paul remix) - Africa Bambaata
    Ready to go - Republica
    Born Slippy - Underworld
    Stamp - healy and Amos
    Mony Mony - Billy Idol
    King Rocker - Generation X
Ever fallen in love - The Buzzcocks (you'll fall off the treadmill with this and Gen X!)
Pump it up - Elvis Costello
Staring at the rude boys - The Ruts
    Caroline - Status Quo
    Rock this town - Straycats
Swords of a thousand men - Tenpole Tudor

If you can't get a good workout using that lot then I'd give up!!!
