We cannot afford to get a new kitchen yet, though it needs a new one. We thought of buying a new, but freestanding cooker..but don't like the look of the freestanding cookers.
So I was thinking of getting a temporary cooker to tide us over...What's the cheapest way of doing this?
I have asked my friend who is a tradesman to find me an old one when someone is replacing their kitchen...but no luck so far...
Can someone give me any ideas of getting hold a free one or a cheap one????
Is there a wat of getting hold of the working cookers that are sent for recycling??0 -

Except, having had to suffer numerous of these on school cooking trollies... they're crap.Little miracle born April 2012, 33 weeks gestation and a little toughie!0 -
We bought a new house this year and had the same problem. We are buying a hugely expensive range to go in our new kitchen when we fit it in the next few months so we didn't want to pay a couple of hundred for a temporary one, especially as rewiring etc for the cable would be a nightmare for a temporary solution (we are moving the kitchen to a different room so it would have been such a waste of time and money).
We have managed to survive, (just), using a double hob bought from WIlko's for £20, a George Foreman, a rice cooker and microwave. We manage to cook full meals each night, from casseroles, and fry ups to steamed fish, rice, salad and fried potatoes. Added to that that our current kitchen is littl emore than a large cupboard and I think we have done extremely well!I'll have some cheese please, bob.0 -
camping stove and a microwave would do the job0

You can get very cheap induction hobs.
The one thing I would miss is my grill. I use it for most things. A grill and a microwave would do me."If you think it's expensive to hire a professional to do the job, wait until you hire an amateur." -- Red Adair0 -

Your range sounds good. I am dreaming of one too...let's see if we can save up enough for one.We have managed to survive, (just), using a double hob bought from WIlko's for £20
Sounds like a good idea. The quickest way to double your money is to fold it in half and put it back in your pocket. :rolleyes:0 -
Thanks guys. You have given us lot of choices and ideas. The quickest way to double your money is to fold it in half and put it back in your pocket. :rolleyes:0

How long do you think it'll be before you refit the kitchen? If it's only going to be a few months, you'd be surprised at how you could manage without an oven. We did this when we moved into a house and the oven/hob left behind didn't work. We were replacing the kitchen so didn't want to rush out and replace cooker until we knew what we wanted. We had a George Foreman, Microwave , Veg Steamer and Slow Cooker and managed surprisingly well.0
