Mac code from sky

Hi
I rang sky today to ask for my mac code (broadband is getting slower and i'm looking for someone cheaper and hopefully faster), but the customer service op surprised me by saying that they can't give it to me until i change my phone line over to another company 1st. Is this right?

I was planning to take out a joint phone and broadband bundle with somebody else, but i'm now guessing i can't do this as i won't have the mac code.

Thanks for any help
P.s i may not be able to reply quickly as lately my broadband is more off then on

Nonsense. They are obliged to give you your MAC within 5 working days. However, if you are on a Sky LLU service then you cannot transfer direct to another LLU provider, you will have to take your line rental back to BT first on a return to donor. This is free, but requires a 12m line rental contract. Once you have switched back to BT, you can order your broadband provision with your chosen supplier.

If you are on LLU Sky, you do not need a MAC code. You only need a MAC code for broadband that goes through BTs network 21CN and t'other network.
  • If you don't want to go back to BT on a 12 month contract you should be able to take your phone and broadband to your choisen provider direct, if you are unable to do this then concider going to someone like the post office fot your phoneline which is cheaper than BT and you will only be on a rolly monthly contract rather than a 12 month contract.

But how can the OP take the service direct to their new provider if the line is already LLU'd?
