Talk Mobile Cant Port number?
A month back I signed up for a Talk Mobile 24 month contract.
Free HD Desire S
500 Min , 1500 texts and no capped unlimited data for £25 monthly.
All very good and so far very happy with phone + service, can recommend them.
However, I wish now to port my old number got myself a PAC from vodafone, rang TalkMobile up, only to be informed that since 14 days had elapsed since start of contract they would not be able to do this.
Previous reading had let me believe it was an ofcom/eu directive that you should be able to port your number full stop between networks at any point.
Can anybody please advise on whether i can pursue this further?
Many thanks

I believe the rule is that you can port your number, but not at any time. Voda used to only allow it at the point of starting the new contract and they were never stopped from doing it that way.
So if the T&C's of Talk Mobile say you can only port in the first 14 that must be right, unless you can get them to make an exception (if they even can. Voda said it was network issue and had to upgrade something if I remember right).0 -
I saw a good deal with Talkmobile and just found this issue too.
Apparently they are are a virtual provider and don't have the facility to port numbers. The only way to do it is at sign up. They said I can cancel the contract within the 14 days, return everything (via Carphone Warehouse store) and they will give me a new contract with the ported number.
This will probably screw up my cashback claim though so don't think I'll bother.
Just be aware that you you need your pac code at sign up for Talk Mobile.0 -
To be fair to TalkMobile, they do mention this in their FAQs. I only know this because I'm thinking of moving to TM when my Vodafone contract is up in a few weeks. It's annoying, but I believe all a provider has to do is allow the user the option of porting their number at the start of the contract.0

Which caused no end of trouble when the PAC I gave Voda when I took out a contract with them disappeared into some IT blackhole at their end, never to be seen again... they ended up having to do a new order (with a 2nd credit check to boot... thanks Voda), cancel the sim from my original order and link the phone from order #1 to the sim from order #2... you couldn't make it more complicated if you tried :rotfl:Now free from the incompetence of vodafail0 -
I must admit it's a bit rubbish for CPW / TalkMobile. Its not exactly jumping out of the order page regarding that you can't transfer after purchase, and all other operators allow you to transfer afterwards. I'm not sure about the 'can't do it because we're not the min carrier' excuse either. I just checked giffgaff and tesco mobile and they seem to manage.0

It's quite clear in their FAQ's but I agree that this isn't the first place you look when offered a good deal.
I've pasted the relevant section as best I can below for others to read.- Contact your current network and ask for your PAC (porting authorisation code). Let them know you don't want them to disconnect your number quite yet.
- When you buy a Talkmobile phone in any Carphone Warehouse store, over the phone or online, let us know your PAC.
- If you buy in store or over the phone, we'll let you know when your number move will happen. On this date, your old network will move your number to Talkmobile; your old SIM will be disconnected and will no longer work.
- You need to give us these details when you buy as we won't be able to move your number without them.
- If you buy online we'll move your number within 5 working days, and send you a text confirming the move date.
- Once your old SIM has been disconnected simply put your Talkmobile SIM into your phone and turn it on.
- IMPORTANT: You cannot port your number after purchase, it must be done when you buy.

tesco do ports after 2 month no issueDon't put your trust into an Experian score - it is not a number any bank will ever use & it is generally a waste of money to purchase it. They are also selling you insurance you dont need.0
