Stores making mistakes (including HMV fail!)

Options
I don't know if it is just me being more vigilant but I managed to pick up 4 mistakes in 4 different stores over 2 days. I went to only a few more shops than these 4 but here goes...

Sainsburys - tons of reduced food food for some reason, I picked up an item that had gone out of date the day before, handed it to someone there who quickly took it from me.

Currys/PC World discount store - picked up a bluray player, had a nightmare as the first person typed the code on it on the system and told me it was £42. Took it to the tills to be told it was £92 and customer services told me it had been labelled incorrectly.

Asda - How to Train Your Dragon on DVD was £7 on one shelf and £8 on the next shelf. Turned out the £7 was incorrect...

HMV - see pic below. A 4GB USB memory stick, great bargain reduced from the original price of £14.99 to £10. Strange as the one behind was for sale for £7.99 as a standard price!!!

Mistakes are made, ive found ood stuff in sainsburys before and the staff i hadn it to is always thankful/grateful for it, i know how hard it is doing reductions and you do miss 1 or 2, re the asda example maybe the 1 with £7 on was old stock back from when the dvd was £7

That does indeed sound nightmarish. Can you seek compo for extreme distress?

i'm still bearing the scars, both physically & mentally, from when a similar thing happened to me. i'm filling up even thinking about it now. it eventually led to counselling though.

it still haunts me in my sleep though. there's no amount of therapy can get rid of the mental damage done by the torture i endured at asda's hands when they mis-priced that vhs player

    it's spelt d-e-f-i-n-i-t-e-l-y
there - 'in or at that place'
    their - 'owned by them'
    they're - 'they are'
it's bought not brought (i just bought my chicken a suit from that new shop for £6.34)

Whilst the above posts are funny, I don't think we should be too hard on the OP for an unfortunate choice of word (nightmare).

Of course, had he been with a small child who was desperate for the item in question and had been told that he could have it on the basis of the original price, 'nightmare' could have been an appropriate choice. :D

Whatever, it is annoying when shops cannot get their prices correct.

Atleast on the HMV fail, it's entirely possible that said sale item was from an old campaign, they run "sales" 52 weeks of the year and as a result residual stock will be left over particularly with "secondary" items which that would fall into. It's also entirely possible that one of two things has happened there, either one of those things is labeled up incorrectly (when you're handed a roll of stickers and given an hour to do it mistakes can be made) OR their reports haven't been run/cleared which they should have been indicating that the base price (white sticker) is lower than sale price and should have been transfered out.

On the other hand, they shouldn't have had the £10 one infront of the other, however that could also have been a customer & can't be argued either way.

New Policy in place for PcWorld/Currys. If the price on the shelf is different to what it rings up on Eclipse the POS, they will reduce it to the shelf price (Obviously only if the shelf price is cheaper). Regardless of the price difference (could be .50p could be £500).

When a customer asks me to spare a minute and to follow them to where they have found an out of date item, I get annoyed because it's another staff member messing up. I do know that things will sometimes get missed but it's when it is a full tray of potatoes or a tray of sandwich fillers for etc that gets picked up, it's very Arrgh!

Pricing errors aren't just limited to HMV and supermarkets, they also happen in Primark etc.

Assuming it's the same (or near as dammit) product on the ticket, I hasten to add (before you all go taking a £229 TV ticket and moving it onto the £2000 one on the sly!! Yes, people try that one *sigh*)

I like the sound of that with the marking down of prices to match what is shown on the shelf. In that case it was cheeky because the item I picked up was scuffed and didn't come with anything else. It was in a bargain bin area of the shop. The price they quoted me was that of the boxed item which came with instructions, leads etc and they wanted to charge the same! Over 100% price increase over £42 for that item is a big deal in my opinion, if anyone disagrees I'd say they shouldn't be on a money saving forum! Taking the item to the till and then have the shop staff act as if you're the one being stupid and making the mistake in front of a queue of customers is irritating to say the least, especially when it was someone there who screwed up and not you. The code that was on it turned out to be for a different item, a dvd player. The strangest thing is they claimed the loose item came as part of a set with speakers which was why it was more yet I can't find any reference to that 'set' on the internet and the boxed ones didn't come with speakers...?
Having never worked in a shop/retail environment I must admit I wouldn't be aware of how much the customers could be with regards to asking about things. I do try and be sympathetic though and am really nice to shop assistants pretty much all the time unless they have a really negative attitude towards me. When I see people folding clothes in primark all day etc I can imagine it's not the easiest way to earn what isn't likely to be a huge amount above minimum wage.
I thought it was a bit strange seeing so many discrepancies in prices in one night considering shops are trying so hard to attract buyers. As mentioned it's probably the sales that occur all year round now that are causing these complications...
