hi everyone
have just signed up - what a great website!!
i am looking into reclaiming some dosh from various banks but have a couple of queries before i do the template letters etc.
1. i am assuming that i can't claim debit interest which was charged when i went over the overdraft limit etc. is it right that i can only claim the fees etc they whack on?
2. in an old HSBC account i was charged £12 for going about £600 over my overdraft limit (tho i rectified the situation pretty quickly). is this reasonable?
3. an old credit card account shows that i was charged 3 x £10 for late payment - do you reckon i will get this back or will it be considered "reasonable"
AND FINALLY!!!
4. does anyone have any experience of Smile closing accounts if you lobby for repayment. we only have a total of couple of hundred quid paid out (at most) but all of our banking is now done with smile so am not sure if i should claim if they are going to play nasty.
thanks for any replies, really appreciate any help people can give me - i'm in need of sorting my finances out and this is one way to start!
cheers, rachelx

hi, if anyone can answer my queries or point me in the right direction of a thread on here which might answer them that would be great (i have tried to search for the answers but without success)
i have got some statements from smile off the computer and i see that they charge a £15 service charge (which they describe in their terms as a "management fee" if you go over the limit. do you think this is claimable, seems unfair to me seeing as they don't even write to me to tell me i am over the limit or even send an email!
really hoping someone can help! cheers x0 -
Hi Rachel
I have taken on both HSBC and Yorkshire Bank over unfair charges and won both times in the last 4 weeks. I was being charged between £25 and £100 every time I went over my overdraft limit. I sent the first letter with a list of charges and dates attached and was offered 95% of my request within 2 weeks. With the Yorkshire Bank it was three days and the money was in my account without even agreeing to it! Neither of these banks closed my account. Hope this helps a bit0 -
well done!
i am hoping to get my letter off to HSBC today, after watching last night's programme might only be able to claim for the £72 charge and not the £12 they charged me once but its better than nothing and will really help if i can get it back soon (i can't even afford a new pair of glasses a the minute and mine are knackered!)
cheers for your reply, rachelx0
