I got a pair of Bridgestone Turanza's in 215x55 R16 for LESS than they want for one tyre!!

    Thieving gits!

They are 235/45/17 Bridgestone Potenzas (RE050A). £130 from blackcircles (fitted), so £50 cheaper.

The car is getting on for 5 years old. Most of the stuff can be safely and cheaply carried out at independents.

Brake pads need done at 26k what a load of rubbish.

I have done over 60k since buying my Mondeo and don't know when the front pads where changed.

Dealer is trying it on, ask them why they sold you a car with worn brakes.

I have just reread your first post OP.

    You have only done 3000miles!

Rear tyres on most cars would have hardly worn in 3k, the legal limit is 1.6mm in the central 2/3's.

Your car shares brake components with, i think, the Golf, Octavia etc.

Front pads are probably about £30 a set, discs maybe £60 a pair. If they arw saying the pads need done but not the discs then they are full of it, after all since they removed asbestos i have noticed that you usually have to replace them both as the rate of wear on the discs is more than with older pads, again just something i have observed.

After reading this thread i realise why i do my own servicing, but when i took my previous, newish, cars to dealers i think they realised that i only wanted done what was required.

You only need to service the car to the schedule, so long as a proper vat registered garage do the brakes you should have no issues with the warranty.

Though VW dealers are not a patch on Skoda garages from what i seem to be hearing, is the reason for this due to the different kinds of people that buy at these different brands, i reckon Skoda customers are more savvy and VW buyers have bought into the advertisers "quality, upmarket" image.

Oh for sure. I asked about the cambelt and they said that my service book doesn't have the 4 year interval, but it's there now... Obviously they realised they missed out on their profit margin.

4 years or 120,000 miles? Who does 30,000 miles per year in a convertible? I doubt I'll bother with the cambelt - ever.

The tyres they have down as 5mm tread outer, 5mm tread middle and 2mm inner. Does that sound compromised?

They also asked for £16.30 for a new service book (I keep mine at home, not in the car).

It's not a choice, it's whichever comes first.
Difficult one if VW introduced that time after your car was produced and made it retroactive. Chances are that's the minimum period of time you could expect it to last, but a failed one can put the engine beyond economical repair.

Do the cambelt when it is needed, just use a VW specialist.

If the tyre has 5mm on the outside but only 2mm on the inside edge then firstly it doesn't need tyres, and you need to get the geometry checked by a place that does proper alignment, not just "tracking" as your car shouldn't be wearing the tyres like that.

You have also only done 3000miles!

I did that many miles in the last six weeks. And all four of my tyres are just below 2mm so it is getting some tyres as a treat.

One think, i had a Seat Toledo back in '99, the new saloon shape based on the Golf, it also wore that rear tyres funny, this was before i discovered proper wheel geometry so perhaps there was some adjustment available.

I think somebody mentioned a website called "www.alignmycar.com or .co.uk"

If you are in Essex/Kent/London then take it to Elite in Rainham.

I think you are right in that the dealer is just trying to take advantage of the recall to make money.

And make sure you ask them why they sold you a car with worn brakes. Brakes don't wear that much in 3000miles, in fact if tou did the miles on the motorway they wouldn't have worn atall.

It's not just VW garages- Fiat told me I needed to get the tracking done on my car, at £55; took it to the local garage and they said it was spot on. Fiat garage told me I needed two new tyres at about £70 each, local garage told me I could probably do another 3000 miles on them, and it certainly wasn't an immediate requirement like Fiat told me it was!

Our greatest weakness lies in giving up; always try just one more time

They keep on pestering me to go there and get these fairly spurious items done. Real pain.

I will use an independent when I get the car serviced in January....
