I keep mine for those Ryanair bookings.
Well you do have to use it in an ATM if there is no merchants that accept cards.
Very few restaurants in Ibiza town take cards, and hardly anywhere in India accepts cards accept the hotels.
So you do have to factor in ATM use depending on where your going, nothing over dramatic about that.
If you withdraw £50 out of the cash point using the anywhere card, you pay 3.5%, so it is cheaper to use a debit card (providing its not from one of the rip off banks)
And why would you use it from Ryanair, your still paying the 1.5% fee, there are cards that do the same thing for free. Neteller for example.0 -

I'm suggesting that you do not need to use it as your only/main card. I certainly don't and didn't even when they did not have the £1 ATM withdrawal charge.
It doesn't cost me anything to keep the card and I'm 'savvy' enough not to use it for cash withdrawals.
Your story about a debit card is misleading as most banks qualify as rip-off banks. So the FairFX Anywhere Card is cheaper than most for withdrawals.
In any event, you are comparing apples and oranges.
If the people using PrePaid cards had access to the no fee debit cards, they would not be using the Prepaid Mastercards.
I generally recommend the Travelex Cash Passport Globe when it comes to Prepaid Mastercards.
NetTeller? No thank you.Their fees are horrendous and I certainly would not go to that much trouble in order to save a few pennies when purchasing Ryanair flights.
Example; If I buy a flight for £30 with FairFx, I will pay 42p in fees. Hardly worth getting my underwear in a twist.
If I purchase a 30 euro inward bound flight, a mere 42c.
But, if I use the Neteller card for the inward bound flight, I get hit with a 2.95% forex charge equalling 87.5c.
Not to mention their £3 ATM withdrawal charge.
You see? To say that FairFx is one of the worst is a gross exaggeration.
It is no longer the best, but it certainly isn't one of the worst.0 -

Well that’s a bit of pot calling kettle if ever i seen it with the drama.
Not all debit cards load withdrawals excessively. Coventry BS only charges me 2%.
The ones that do are provided in a list on this site so people can avoid them.
On to your "horrendous Neteller charges". the use of neteller was made with reference to you buying Ryanair flights, which is an online purchase. It has never been recommended by anyone as a travel card. Since there is no charge for getting the card, no charge for loading the card, and no charge for using the card online. I fail to see how this is horrendous.
I agree there is a forex charge if its in another currency, not every card can cover for every single situation, but 75p is a gross misuse of the word horrendous in relation to a €30 flight. Most people have to leave before they come home so the transaction would be in £'s if booked as a single ticket.
Its about what works for each person at the end of the day.0 -

You again are missing the point. This is a thread about a PrePaid Mastercard.
The people who use Prepaid Mastercards are less likely to have the best bank accounts.
Pot calling the kettle black. :rotfl:
I suggested that you could still use FairFx Anywhere, but not for withdrawals(at least not small withdrawals) and you poo-poohed the idea, but now you suggest getting a Neteller card just for Ryanair flights?? You certainly wouldn't use it abroad, with it's horrendous charges. A 2.95% forex charge and a £3 ATM withdrawal charge is up there with the worst.
So, I go back to the statement that the FairFx Anywhere is still a useful card and most certainly nowhere near the worst, as you have tried to suggest.0 -

People who have prepaid mastercard are people who don't want to get ripped off with airline fees and high card charges, I don't think there has been any statistics published into the credit worthiness of the holders.stilltheone wrote: »You certainly wouldn't use it abroad, with it's horrendous charges. Why do you keep referring the Neteller card as a travel card, It was never claimed to be one.
And yes I would , and have just got a neteller card for buying ryanair flights.
Still trying to decipher poo-poohed, i'll get back to you on that one.0 -
err...you cant stop a company from posting public information. why do you think supermarkets often keep their competitors prices on the shelf too?Target Savings by end 2009: 20,000
current savings: 20,500 (target hit yippee!)
Debts: 8000 (student loan so doesnt count)
new target savings by Feb 2010: 30,0000 -

I see that you just want to argue.....
If people don't want to be ripped off with high airline fees and high card charges, then why don't they all go for the Neteller card?
They don't because of the high card charges in all but the purchase of outbound Ryanair flights.
Whereas the FairFx Anywhere card is much more versatile and with reasonable charges.
You appear to have forgotten your rather exaggerated statement;I used to use the fairfx anywhere card it was the best on the market, until they got greedy and decided it charge £1 per atm withdrawal, now its one of the worst.
The fact is that it is nowhere near the worst. It is still a good all round card.
Your Neteller recommendation illustrates that fact, with it's £3 cash withdrawal fee and 2.95% forex fee. Much worse than the FairFx Anywhere.
So by your reckoning; Neteller is one of the worst Prepaid cards on the market.
You can't have you cake and eat it too.0 -

So why don't they all get Halifax Clarity or Santander Zero CCs and Metro/Cumberland/N&P account for travel and Neteller cards for Ryanair?
The whole market for PrePaid Mastercards other than Neteller would collapse.0 -

I think you'll find a lot of people do exactly that.
And again you selectively ignored the fact that i only said Neteller was good for buying flights. In fact i exclusively said it was not suitable as a travel card, yet every reply you've made goes on about forex charges and atm withdrawals.
And not everyone likes to take out credit cards some people like to be debt free. Doesn't mean they are unable to obtain credit.0
