What's happened? The answers to your question depend on the email you've received :)

    Ok.

Proof of postage doesn't prove that the buyer got the item. If you had a tracking number, you could have used that, but without one, the buyer will always get their refund, whether you like it or not. It's not really a cheek to expect a refund for an item that never showed up.

Even though you've closed the account, paypal will probably still chase you for the debt. The amount of money involved should influence your decision on how or when or if to pay it back!

like fay says, your buyer didn't get their item so where's the cheek in wanting a refund? I'm sure that if you had been th ebuyer and didn't get your item you would have been asking how to get your money back!

It's very simple, reopen your paypal account refund your buyer and then use your certificate of posting to reclaim your losses from the Royal mail.

As for pypal and debt colelction, like Fay says it depends on the amount and the mood paypal are in. They will almost certainly chase you for the money, they do use professional debt collectors and have been in trouble for using frightening techniques to get the debt back. They may also mark you as a defaulter on your credit record which has serious repercussions.

Chargebacks can be done and before it happens I think refunding would be the best option. Have you sent the item? How long has the buyer been waiting? If its been a few days then tell them to wait but if its been longer e.g over a week I would personally refund and then take it up with Royal Mail.

If the buyer used a Credit Card then they can do a chargeback via their credit card company meaning they will get their money back 100% and then that will leave Paypal after you. Depends really, I think a refund should be given. Make sure you tell the buyer that if they receive the item after the delivery you would either like the money or item back, that should be fair.

Out of curiosity (sp?) what was the item? is it valued quite highly?

    Hope that helped.
  • seem this ebuyer does it to everyone looking at feedback...seems never to receive items...........

Make sure you mention it when you leave feedback then. And put in the RM claim - with luck the RM will investigate him if too many items have gone 'missing'

possibly trying it on then, if they do a claim back and you have no proof of delivery then they will get their money back

learn from your mistakes and in future send items by either Recorded Delivery (items worth up to £32) or Special Delivery (items worth over £32-£500) so you will have proof of delivery.
