Daughter Didn't Get Paid updated

You know I think there's a legal obligation she has to be paid on her pay day...this happened to me before and they have to write a cheque or give you cash then effectively take it off of next months wages!! Does she have any Direct Debits etc due out as if she incurs charges due to not being paid she'll have to claim them back from the company!
Does anyone have any further info on this as my OH has been getting paid sporadically for the past 6-9 months and we have experienced financial hardship due to this and have had DD's go unpaid and we have incurred fees that have not been refunded by his boss as he says we should have saving to cover this sort of thing!0 -

it all depends where you work to what they will do for you. my company wont do cash advances unless your missin more then 200 pounds so if you a few quid short they will make you wait till the following pay month.
has for sporadically is there a change in what he does on a weekly bases does his hours/days change each week it might be he gets a premium that he doesnt know he gets for a certain time frame and changing days off or hour could mean he does or doesnt get it.
or did i read this wrong and you ment his pay date.?0 -

I can't believe your boss said you should have saving to cover that sort of thing....what business is it of his if you have savings or not and what you do with your money....At the end of the day you get given a specific payday and you should be notified before the date it is due to be paid in....most people know it's say the 28th of each month or the last working day or the last friday there's so many different ones...you need to tell your OH to tell his boss to get whoever is checking their payroll to make sure it is correct as they should have a few days to get it sorted ...i'm not sure of any laws etc but I do know from my mum( she's a school business manager and deals with this sort of thing) So I know when a previous job hadn't paid me because they messed up that I had a right to say I need that in my account today so I think they paid me cash but they were nice about it and apologetic!!
It doesn't sound like your boss is nice about it though i'll ask my mum she should know where you stand on that...I'm just shocked that someone would have the audacity to say that to you and that you are having difficulty financially because of it that's not on!!A lot of fellows nowadays have a B.A., M.D., or Ph.D. Unfortunately, they don't have a J.O.B."0 -
Matti and Mazi - I should have explained things clearer - my OH has been working at a small business for around 6 years, always got on brilliantly with his boss. When I say small business, I mean it is just his boss, bosses OH, bosses daughter and four lads inc OH. He should get paid weekly, every Friday. I am a stay at home mum, this suits us fine, as long as I know what money is coming in and out I can budget perfectly well and we don't really go without day to day things.
These past 6-9 months his boss has just not been paying everyone on time. Personally, I think the company is close to going under. The lads have been expecting to get paid on a Friday, no wages in bank, no boss to be seen (he switches phone off etc). He KNOWS that we only have the one wage to survive on with two kids and he doesn't seem to give a toss anymore
(everyone else has a wife/partner who brings in decent wages so they don't struggle as much as we do). Then when they do see them he offers a cheque (that mostly bounce) or *promises* that they will have wages by Friday, then Monday, then WEdnesday and before you know it we are three weeks behind on wages, which leads to bank charges, which leads to us having less money than if he would have paid wages on time.
OH has been looking for another job, but is finding it hard to get one, he is a hard grafter, but just jobs are hard to find round here.
Hope this clarifies things a bit for you, and any advice would be fab

According to the CAB website, employees have a legal right to a written contract of work, which must include when they will be paid. If the employer does not stick to these terms, they have breached the contract, and the employee can take out a grievance. This link provides the info, including how to take out a grievance against an employer.

ACAS probably has some useful advice too: http://www.acas.org.uk/index.aspx?articleid=14610
