So the card in me camera is saying its write protected and i looked it up and its all about the 'lock' switch on it. trouble is , is there isnt a switch on it as it appears to have broken off somewhere. But, there isnt even a place on the chip inside that shows where this may have gone.
Now i dont want to reformat the card as it still has pictures i cant transfer off so thought i would ask you lot for some help
cheers

Top left hand side is the write protect lock
Remember kids, it's the volts that jolt and the mills that kill.0 -
There should still be no problem getting the pictures off, either via the camera or a pc card reader. It should read as normal but won't write new data to it0

If "write protect" is on you won't be able to format it.0

If the little 'lock' tab has broken off, you can probably solve it with a dab of milliput, just make sure it is firmly attached.0

You can adjust the protection policy via regedit. Start Menu// Run// 'regedit' ... search for StorageDevicePolicies click on WriteProtect and change the value to 0. Restart the computer with the card attached and hey presto

So you can't trust the writeprotect feature when using it on a compromised system like you could with floppy discs?0 -

It doesn't connect to anything - it isn't a switch, it just presses (or doesn't) a switch in the reader - a blob pf stuff in the 'lock' or 'unlock' poition will make it so forever :-)0 -
I put a bit of selotape round them, just once, that worksHi, we’ve had to remove your signature. If you’re not sure why please read the forum rules or email the forum team if you’re still unsure - MSE ForumTeam0

I remember reading this on the SANS site. They were comparing it to the write-protect switch you get on some USB sticks (very useful if you don't want corporate AV software deleting all your penetration testing tools). http://isc.sans.edu/diary.html?storyid=10588So you can't trust the writeprotect feature when using it on a compromised system like you could with floppy discs?0
