Benefits of being a Housewife?

Hi

After 26yr of hard work and too many nights away from my family I took VR at the start of the year.

At last, other than our mortgage we are debt free and it also gave me the chance to take some time off to spend with my family.

My husband works but his wage 'just' covers our monthly bills, so I decided it was time to look for work.

I wasnt aware I could claim Jobseekers, but this was approved and I have been claiming for 3 weeks now.

I can safely say JSA is not the route for me right now and I am looking to sign off and look for the right job to come along under my own steam.

I need to understand the following.........

1 - Can my husband claim Working Tax Credits if I am a Housewife who doesn't claim any benefits?

2 - What impact would this have on my State Pension?

3 - Can I submit a new claim for JSA when the time is right and if so, is there a timescale?

Many thanks in advance for any advice you may have :)

There is a website called entitledto or something similar. If you google it you will find it. Anyway, you input figures in like your income and your pension payments etc etc and it comes up with what you are entitled to, hence the name of the website. You could try that. Good luck.

Even if you are not entitled to JSA, it's still worth signing on, to get your NI credits.

You'll only be entitled to contribution based JSA for six months - it is unlikely you'll get income based JSA as your husband's earnings will be taken into account.
