British Gas Websaver 11 (now 12) question.

Hi
I recently swapped my parents Gas & Electric from Npower to BG.
We swapped for the Websaver 11 tarriff. We were told that we would go on the standard, but to call up on the day of transfer and ask for WS11.
I have found out this morning via the MSE email that BG have axed the WS11 tarriff and replaced it with WS12.
Where do my parents stand with regards to this? Can they no longer have the WS11?
I've been unable to see what the difference is between the two tarriffs as the BG website was not working properly when I looked earlier.
I'm concerned that they swapped due to the savings available on WS11, and that now may not be the case.

I believe that Websaver 12 has a penalty clause attached to it if you leave in the first 12 months. This is one of the reasons that I haven't switched from my current BG tariff (Click 6 which is also ending) and have decided to move suppliers instead. I'm happy to have a penalty clause on a fixed rate, but it seems unfair when the rate is variable - as I believer Web12 to be. I'm assuming that your parents will be automatically shifted to the standard tariff in the first instance and they'll have to opt for 12. This is just another example of how complex the pricing now is for such a fundamental service. I look forward to the proposed, simpler framework being proposed.
PS Web12 is dearer than 11 - at least in my area. It's basically a means to a price rise.0 -
The problem they have is that they are not yet BG customers. I did the swap around 3 weeks back, but the actual change dates are around the 12th June.
I suppose this means they will have no choice but to have WS12 as WS11 no longer exists0 -
there is the online saver 4 available from british gas0

Oh, they have already applied? I suspect that if you have already applied they will just continue with the switch, I think that this tarif has only just been closed to new business rather than discontinued altogether as they have done with click60 -
Perhaps the British Gas company representative will answer this soon as I'm in the process of transferring at the moment.
It's your money. Except if it's the governments.0 -
Sounds strange - I would have thought you would have a case for being put on the websaver 11 tariff to be honest.
From what I gather, you did the swap over the phone did you? Did an agent advise you they would process the sale, and then you would have to sign up for websaver 11 online?
If this is the case, you could well get someone at BG to listen to the call, and put you onto websaver 11...the reason being that this is not the standard way that customers should be signed up to websaver 11. The agent who you spoke to clearly has just done this to get the sales commission, he/she should have advised you to sign up yourself online for websaver 11. This, you would have been able to do instead of having the sale processed over the phone and signing up for it later...and would therefore have switched the account to websaver 11 automatically.
Take it up with BG!Let us create a better world for the next generation.

Hi jediknight49, I am having the same problem. When I applied to switch the Websaver 11 Duel Fuel was still available but they said I cannot switch to a tarrif until it is all transferred from the old suppliers. Now I can switch and they say its not available anymore!
Can you comment on what your outcome was?
Thanks,
Ray0 -

[ yes that is so but you will still get websaver 11 because it was available when you applied nothing to do with changeover time]that can take 6 weeks0
