Woody, Can you provide proof a car cannot be overloaded?

Why do cars have the max axle loading weights if it does not apply?

Front axle weight, Rear axle weight, Gross vehicle weight, Gross trailer weight and trailer noseweight
AND the gross train weight must all be within the cars limits.

Exceeding any of the above and you could be done.

Anyone able to suggest ways of securing such loads?

I need to load my hideously small car up with stuff with the back seats folded down in order to make a long journey to relocate for work. No passengers to worry about, just me :rotfl:

I never said it couldn't be overloaded.

Whilst the RTA refers to a vehicle for excess weight, officers who have written authority to weigh motor vehicles and trailers are instructed only to apply this offence for comercial vehicles. When it comes to cars they are instructed to use Reg 100 Con and Use.

I can't provide you with proof as I cannot post a protectivly marked document.

Usually in the boot you'll find a couple of metal loops or D shape rings on the floor. Get a couple of those small mini ratchet straps from Lidle for a quid.
