Of course your diet will effect the amount of the cholestrol you body produces.
The pancreas produces insulin. It's the liver that produces cholesterol. And yes, the intestine does absorb the cholesterol that passes through it in food. This mechanism is well understood by medicine and biology.
However, a healthy organism gets rid of excess cholesterol, but this assumes that the person consumes a lot of fibre which, by making the food pass quickly through the digestive system, gets the cholesterol out before too much is absorbed.
Oats are well known to keep cholesterol levels down, as they contain a kind of sticky fibre which grabs the marauder and prevents its absorption.Be careful who you open up to. Today it's ears, tomorrow it's mouth.0 -
OH and I are going to go on a store cupboard/freezer eatout up to Christmas and we will hopefully not need to buy too much food except milk and fresh veg. I get money off vouchers from various supermarkets and use these when I need the items only. We always have a poke around in the 'whoopsie' sections and get some great things in there. If you work it out right, you can do very well with the BOGOFs too. If possible it's best to shop around too. I don't necesserily (sp) think that Aldi/Lidl are the cheapest for everything, nor is Sainsbury's the dearest.
I use (or will be doing in store cupboard eatout) dried pulses. They are very good fillers and can be used in many ways. Aduki beans can be used instead of mince (mix with onion, tomatoes & carrots) for an good filling shepherds pie. OH is a veggie and although I'm not it's easier to cook 2 veggie meals than 1 of each.
Good luck in your challenge, it will make good reading.
Edit- remember a bargain is only a bargain if you need the item in the first place!"It is always the best policy to speak the truth-unless, of course, you are an exceptionally good liar." - Jerome K Jerome0 -
Ive just made thick lentil soup more than enough for 5 of us in slow cooker.Very healthy and cheap
Couple stock cubes
1-2 tins value tomatoes
third pack lentil mix
handful rice
1 medium carrot
large onion
tin value beans
tin value kidney beans
to taste garlic,chili powder,worcester sauce
Costs little over a pound serve with homemade bread.Very warming and filling in cold weather.
Whatever is left next day I add some peppers and mince and more chilli to and serve with rice or could put some cooked sausages in with more tomato.0 -

LOL Scarlett! One of the reasons I stopped coming into OS months ago was that all this talk of food was making me peckish and I'd eat just for the sake of it! :eek:Be careful who you open up to. Today it's ears, tomorrow it's mouth.0 -
You can eat for months on a tenner if you use it to buy veggie seeds and grow your own! We ate salads and stir fries all through the summer from the garden - it was fab. Thanks to MSE, I am mortgage free!
