Please be nice to all MoneySavers.
That’s the forum motto. Remember the prime aim is to help provide info and resources. If you don’t like someone, their situation, their question or feel they’re intruding on ‘your board’ then please bite the bullet and think of the bigger issue... a Guardian article recently “doffed its cap” to this forum as being the one place where consumers can collect together and fight back, our job is to help keep it that way.

I wonder if the customer had an ongoing maintenance/monitoring contract with Maplins, or whether it was an outright sale? Surely if it was a one-off (no after-sales maintenance ) purchase then the company is not under any obligation to fix or replace the kit after three years. Legally, financial records should be kept for six years, so there must be a copy of an invoice or receipt stating what the lady purchased somewhere...
Good luck! x0 -
All I wanted was some advice. Some people on this board have way to much time. To the poster who mentioned Keith Pacey feel free to email him. I just wanted advice so I can help the customer the best I can.0

Practical advice, suggest she uses a VCR/DVD recorder0

Well we offered to fix it her in store for her. But perhaps if we are not good in customer service we should tell her to sling her hook
T_T, this quote has obvious sarcasm about it and not meant in a real manner as you suggested in your post.
thats the context I took the posts. The Googlewhacker referance is to Dave Gorman and not to my opinion of the search engine!
If I give you advice it is only a view and always always take professional advice before acting!!!

She has 12 months from date of perchase to refund or exchange a faulty product. Anytime after that. It's a £25 charge, we'll RTX it and send it off our head office. Maplin have no ties to trying to fix it there and then. And is not bad customer service if they don't, because we've never OFFERED that service. It is just good of them if they do so.
Yes. I am aware I'm about 7/8 months out of date of the post. But it hasn't changed warranty policy since then. She in only entitled to a refund or exchange anytime up to 12 months (sometimes with a bit of leeway) from the date of original perchase. So she was 2 years past the date. Nothing more to it. If she was wiling to pay £25, RTX it. Other than that there is nothing (by the book) you can do.0 -

So please don't drag up an old post, to write wrong info.0 -
Another case of a large company giving staff wrong information to save money.0
