Do I have any grounds for compalint?

Bit of long post (possibly) and it is my first on this part of the board:o

15 Months ago i decide that to save money I will go on contract ( I was spending in excess of £30 a month on PAYG with orange, pre animal bundle options.

I had a mobile dongle with them on contract for internet as we didn't have net at home then.

Fine no problem they tell me, I can have a mobile on the same bill with my dongle.

So i get a Nokia X6 16gb for £22.50 a month 300 minutes, free text and 500mb of internet. Great deal I though and I loved the phone (always had nokia phones- I have now seen the light and can't wait to ditch it to another phone)

However I was never told how long the contract was, yes I know I should of asked but I didn't. But based on my dongle contract being 18 months I presumed this was also a 18 month contract.

And as I am on paperless billing i didn't see anything on my bills- my on-line was just showed Dolphin 25 next to Tariff

I'm with orange because my whole family is with orange so its easier to keep in touch and I have thus fair had no issues with them.

Under the thoughts of being on a 18 month contract I've rung them to see about negotiating a new deal/phone- only to be advised that I can't till the 01/01/2012:(

My X6, while long in the tooth, clunky to use and slow, works fine and does what I need for know- it just keeps switching its self off if you place it down on a flat surface (I think the battery cover is a little lose)

I don't mind if I have no option but to carry on with this till next Jan- lets be honest its 6/7 months off which is no big deal, but I just feel a little miffed off that at no point up until now it has not been mentioned that I was on a 24 month contract.

Any help is appreciated- even if its a simple ' No unfortunately your stuck with it till then'.

Cheers

You should have really checked what you were getting into to be honest. Whenever you talk to a network, they will try to flog you the longest contract possible.

Might be worth checking CPW web site and their upgrade section - it lets you find out if you are eligible for early upgrade. Might well be that at month 18 you get that option. Or ring Orange again and this time give them a sob story like "My mobile is breaking down, can I upgrade please". Never know.

On the flip side - remember longer you wait, the better the deal you will get and the better the phone you will get (given how technology moves).

And next time, check you are entering 18 month contract or less (it is possible to get 12 month ones with vodafone but expensive).

normaly when the phone comes, on the welcome letter it has the contract period
Don't put your trust into an Experian score - it is not a number any bank will ever use & it is generally a waste of money to purchase it. They are also selling you insurance you dont need.

may be a bit earlier, you can upgrade at month 21 (not sure how you got the 1st of jan date and if that is the 30months early date or end of contract date)

Also Nokia have 24month warranties usually so they should repair it for you for free (see if you've got a nokia store anywhere nearby)

    Nokia have 2 year warranties?

Didn't realise this either, I'll see if mine has this on it.

Its a 24 month contract and Orange have said I can only upgrade 3 months before the end of the contract( at the earliest no other options there)

Its not a big deal, I'll just hang on till then

01/01/2012 was the date given to me by the Orange CS folk.

And as for a welcome letter, well I got a package(sealed jiffy style bag) delivered with a printed label on with my name and address etc- and the phone box inside- pretty much it- no sealed note on the out side or inside either???
