I got mine for a fraction of that price.... I waited until after the summer and picked them up cheap in homebase.... I needed 8 of them for training up a large frame... I might have to wait 100 years for that ... lol but I am too cold for making wine from my grapes.... I am really growing them for cover... I had a few bunches of grapes last year... You never know, I might get some this year... I used to grow a vine successfully in the greehouse ... you are supposed to plant the vine outside but grown the vine inside the house... bring it up through the floor... The only problem with that is that I couldn't get in the door after a year....

Since this IS Money Saving Experts forum, it's worth pointing out that common grapevine will grow ever so easily from a cutting... so you can either find someone who's got one already, and just grow it for next year, or splash out £13, make some cuttings, and then give them to friends next year, who'll see the £13 plants, and realise how very generous you are!!!0

Do you know what varieties the grapes are? There are probably varieties you can get that are better suited to what you want them for (indoor/ outdoor, eating / wine). I bought one online for £10 because I didn't know anyone to get cuttings from so £13 doesn't seem that cheap!0

What variety are they and where are you based?
The South Downs is a rather different bet to Yorkshire, and even there locality matters. last week I saw a whole vineyard knackered by late frost, with only Rondo and Seyval Blanc recovering. The ssame frosts took out the huge walnut tree at Hutton as well.
Elsewhere, vines are fine.
Even if you do not get fully ripe fruit, you can dry the grapes to make the most delicious raisins.
I stuck my prunings into the ground and have about a half dozen that have taken, which considering the weather and the drought is good going. If you've have not made a mistake, you've made nothing0 -
Sorry no i dont know what the variety was, i think i will look on ebay and compare prices.:beer:2016 Money challenge - £2900

I have grown a grape for three years now. I got 2Kg of grapes off it last year! Shame they aren't seedless! It is a white dessert grape which is delicious but I can't for the life of me remember the variety. I think I paid £7.99 for it but it was only a stick at the time.
I am near Hastings. Mine covered a corner pergola in two years. This year, I am going to have to really cut it back to contain it, but I share it with my neighbour (we have a reciprocal agreement - my neighbour shares a couple of branches of our grape and we share her wisteria on our pergola!)Thanks to MSE, I am mortgage free!

Do the grapes really grow large enough and sweet enough to pick and eat off the vine outdoors?0

The answer up here (sunny Yorkshire) is that in a poor year, even the earliest varieties may not. In a good year they will.If you've have not made a mistake, you've made nothing0

We have a red flame seedless grape which is grown in the border of the green house. It has lovely sweet fruit but we haven't a clue how to prune it!0
