I *think* you're on Virgin cable? If so post#8 is irrelevant.

I wish I'd seen your post before I looked at my phone socket - and wish I'd picked up that post 8 mentioned BT :(. Have put it all back together now, lol.

Asbokibd WLAN shows 11M - WAN shows 100M/FULL

plug it into the router directly to rule out wireless issues, test on a couple of speedtest sites, if you've ruled out malware, call virgin again

    have you been infected recently?

Thanks, done all that, I now have download 4.94, upload 1.03, which is an improvement. I haven't had any issues that I'm aware of, antivirus and malware run on auto daily and haven't recorded anything.

Seems like I need a new router, I'll call Virgin in the morning to sort that out. Last time I called they said the Netgear router wasn't anything to do with them but the new one I have is a Netgear with a Virgin instruction leaflet. Confusing!

Thank you very much for all your help, and patience.

Have you got the right model number for your router? If it is definitely the MR814, then it is ancient. Even the very latest revision of the MR814 router is circa 2005.

According to the datasheet for the latest (2005) version of that router, it only supports WEP encryption[1]

This means that rogues could intercept all your wireless traffic, read all your emails, empty your bank account or, worst case scenario, rob your !!!!!! stash.

Richard Branson definitely owes you a new router. Tight-fisted git.

Definitely MR814 v3. The new one in the box is a WGR614 v9

Mr B is rich because he's a tight-fisted git. I'll speak to one of his minions in the morning.
