Help with item not as described

Hey guys, having a bit of an issue. Bought a second hand coat on ebay. Listing described it as a coat that she loved but was now too big for her, perfect condition, perfect leather buckles and a small unnoticeable green mark.

The small green mark in about 7 cm long in a squiggle right on the front of the coat, one of the leather buckles has bits rubbed off of it and the whole coat reeks of mildew and damp (think...charity shop in an attic.)

What is my liklihood of getting a refund for this as I knew it was used when I bought it but the way it is described made it seem like it was merely too big and she was selling it on.

It seems like she's picked it up in a chairty shop and tried to sell it on for profit.

Any advice here? I've emailed saying I'm not happy and would like to return it but I had issues with her before she even sent it out (paid loads of extra via paypal for next day delivery and took her a week to send it).

Also I suppose I will have to cover postage costs back?
SO frustrated, and I probably wouldn't have bothered but plus the postage this coat has cost me over £90

ouch-thats a lot of money!!

Has she replied to your email regarding returning it?? you'd be better opening SNAD dispute and folowing paypals instructions with regards to returning it, for that ammount it would have to be special delivery, but better to be that down that £90+.

not yet but I'm a bit worried. Next Day delivery is £13.00 and when I paid her through ebay i only paid £4 postage (most ebay allow for clothing postage) and had to send her an extra £7.50 through paypal (she covered the extra £2 as she sent it so late) so I don't know if I can claim that back too. Maybe going through paypal instead of ebay?

Where do I stand on this though/ I knew it was "used" when I bought it...just not this badly!

Firstly, it is always good to liaise with the seller first. Along the lines of ...... thanks for the quick dispatch, unfortunately....and then list the problems......

If you get no response/unsuitable response from the seller, then you can return the coat (at your expense) for a full refund via a SNAD dispute in Paypal (not Ebay).

Your full payment, will depend on how you paid the second amount. If you gifted this amount, you won't get it back. If it was an invoice to pay, you MAY get it back. But it will depend on what it was linked to. In any event, you will get back the first payment (item plus £4).

You should be able to use an online trackable courier for around £9ish.

In what way exactly?

You open a SNAD claim, paypal almost certainly find in your favour and you return the coat tracked.

You may have lost the extra postage, but iif I recall your other thread I think you were warned paying extra was a bad idea.

Yeah thanks for remembering me Soolin but I'd already paid the extra not forseeing what a nightmare this would be (trusting fool).

I just wanted to know where I would stand with Paypal as in... will they be fussy about the item being used and me knowing it was in a used condition kind of way.
I have never had to open a SNAD before and don't know how...strict they are on things like this. One part of my head says it's my fault for buying a used item but the other half says this is in an unacceptable condition when compared to the listing description.

The postage is totally my error and if she won't refund it's my own stupid fault for trying to ease the transaction along.

Eek a 7 cm mark is hardly unnoticable !

File a SNAD with paypal then neg and down score her stars she sounds like a nighmare seller

It is extremely unlikely that paypal will side with the seller, if they do phone up and whinge at them it sometimes works wonders.

I don't want to rub it in but this proves to me that my 'once a bad seller always a bad seller' view is correct. I have often though that once a seller does something against the rules, like ask for extra postage because ebay cap postage in certain caetgories, that they are automatically not to be trusted as trying to bend one rule just shows they take a very lax view on how to sell properly and fairly.

From what I remember of your other thread, this has been a nightmare from the start. If you get no luck with the seller, at least she's played the death in the family card for being a crap seller,(if I remember right). Open a SNAD case in paypal, you have probably kissed your extra postage goodbye.
It may be cheaper to return via courier, how much was the cost of the stamp on the parcel?

Hey yes you are correct, it is I of dead relative fame. I hate judging people harshly but..this is just beyond silly. She had to sent it next day Saturday delivery (which I believe is an extra £2.70) and it was about £13.22 I think. SO if I don't get my extra postage I'm down £17-£18
