Neighbour's asbestos roof

Came home last night to find my (absent) neighbour has builders in starting some major works. Parts of the roof have been pulled down already.
The original roof tiles contain asbestos...instead of properly bagging & containing the material as per the law, they've just used a digger to pull it off the roof (breaking it up & exposing the fibres) & left broken up tiles littering the site...
Obviously I'm quite concerned as the fibres are hazardous, not just to me & my family & the rest of the street but the contractors as well - I've contacted the council who might respond in 5 days - are there any other authorities I should inform?

Get pictures if you can, Report it to the local council and the Environment Agency.
Chances are they are breaking the law under the Environmental Protection Act 1990.' You only live once ! Don't live to regret the past, But to enjoy the future '

No chances! They are.
The company has to have a license to remove asbestos, and they require the area to be screened, and protective suits for employees.0 -
Oh, and without a licence, it will probably be illegally dumped as well. Call the authorities.0

Stay inside as well.0

My asbestos soil pipe was removed last year but my builder was not registered. He had to bag it and I went with him to our tip to sign that it was from my property. They then opened a locked container and put it in.
I stayed inside while he took it down as I was a bit scared.Life is not the way it’s supposed to be. It’s the way it is. The way you cope with it is what makes the difference.0 -

Why? In case it fell on you?
That was probably the biggest risk to your health.0 -

So it's being done whilst you are out, not affecting you in any way. Just leave them to it and stop interfering, it won't kill you.
I've been on around 7 asbestos courses costing our firm over £10k and can tell you that asbestos roof tiles contain only around 10% Chrysotile. Put this this way, in the olden days when cars had asbestos brake pads there would be more asbestos dust in the air at the side of a busy set of traffic lights than in the air next door.
I can understand your concern but telephoning every man and his dog will probably cause the job to be halted, cordoned off and risk assessed costing the builder/your neighbour dearly. Plus the site will be a !!!!!! tip until its cleared by the men in white suits.0 -
