O2 smartphone question

Hi, I currently have an iphone and an iphone tariff with 6 months left on the contract on O2.
I'm about to get an unlocked atrix, will I be able to put my O2 sim in it and still use the internet, or will I have to try to get O2 to switch my tariff to a "smartphone" tariff?

There are no any special 'smartphone' tariffs.

Your sim will work in the new phone. You will need an adaptor if it is a micro sim for iP4.

Thanks Grumbler. Its a 3GS, I have so sim size is fine. My worry was around the internet settings, just incase they were different for iphones from other smart phones.

Yes, you'll have to change the settings. They are different for different networks and don't just move together with the sim card.

    Phone settings

AFAIK often this can be done by a text message from the network.

As soon as you put the SIM in the new handset the settings will automatically be sent to the phone via SMS.
If for any reason this doesn't happen, text the word "ACTIVE" (without quotes) to 2020 and the settings will be sent in 2 text messages which you then save to the phone.

Although this wont work for most modern smart phones (such as Android) as they don't support it. The iPhone and Blackberries are the only phones that require specific tariffs or bolt-ons, others will just work on any tariff that has internet access.

Not used a motorola in ages and I don't know if the Atrix will have the standard menu lay out, but you're looking for something like Settings > Wireless & Networks > Mobile Networks > Access Point Names then you want to create a new APN, set name to whatever, APN to "mobile.o2.co.uk" , username to "o2web" and password to "password", for the MMS APN you need to use "wap.o2.co.uk" and the username "o2wap" and the same password.
