Centre Pieces

Hi guys,
I know this has been talked about a lot so sorry for starting a new thread, but I'm having a mild panic since the florist quoted us £35 - £45 per table!!
So now I'm really interested in doing it myself, but is it me, or is glass super expensive???
We're having round tables - so want either low level centrepieces, or really tall ones. I was hoping that they would cost around £10 per table. The venue are providing mirror plates & tea lights so I don't have to get those. I think the fish bowls would be easy to do - but it's the glass that I'm struggling to find...
I also quite like the vintage lanterns - would they be cheaper?
Perhaps I'm being to cheap & unrealistic - how much have you paid for yours & where did you get them from?
Cheers

Wow that is expensive. When is your wedding?
We brought our fish bowls from Morrisons, £2:99 each. Our florist is then providing 3 gerberas per bowl at 80p each. Pebbles are easy to come across for the bottom.
There is a programme on Wedding TV, 3 grand weddings, that showed how to make centre pieces - worth looking on their website?
Have you got other quotes from different florists?First baby due 3/3/14 - Team Yellow! Our little girl born 25/2/14

We're getting married in the Blackburn/Accrington area in August so I have plenty of time if I do decide to do it myself - but florists are getting booked up if I have to go down that route (I haven't got my bouquet sorted & she's the only one I've found in the area that's available on the date - but that's another panic story!!)...
I hadn't thought about supermarkets, thank you! Will be worth a look. I will look on Wedding TV website (don't have the channel) - but I think I'd be confident enough to make them - it's just the cost of the materials that I'm struggling with.
How big are the ones you got for £2.99? They're quite big tables, so I'm worried that anything less than 10" will be too small???Virtual Sealed Pot Challenge #148 - £59.93

Do you have a Range or Dunelm Mill near to where you live? They have good prices on glass fishbowls. Or I've also seen some in Morrison's & Asda.
I wanted low height & simple, so have bought these from THESE which were a good price but postage is £6.95, I guess that evens the price out though. I had hunted everywhere, so the postage in the end was prob less than I'd have spent on more petrol if I'd continued hunting around stores! I did also buy some decobeads and diamante picks to put into my roses. I have bought Oasis submersibles to go in the bottom too, got them from Ebay for a better price! Elite do have good prices on fishbowls, as do Michael Dark florist.
This is my first mock up table centre, I've ordered red table runners from the chair cover lady, but we have now changed to having red roses and I'll be cancelling the runners! I also will be changing to satin ribbon, don't like the organza! H2B actually gave his opinion that he didn't like the white roses as he thought they had a green tinge!!! Glad I did take the time to set it up & check out how it would look!
These were really quick & easy to do, this only took about 10 minutes!

They're really lovely dawnebabe! Are the roses real or foam? I love the submersibles! I think I definately need to go into the shops and see how big they actually look rather than guessing with my ruler. I knew about Michael Dark, but not Elite, so thanks. Have you worked out a total cost per table for yours??Virtual Sealed Pot Challenge #148 - £59.93

Thank you! The roses are real, I've not worked out the total per table, not very MSE!, so here goes:
Mirror plate, The Range, £2.49
Cylinder vase, Elite, £3.28
Roses, M&S, £6
Decobeads, Elite, £1.61
Submersible, Ebay, £1.79
I already had the tealight holders & huge bag of tealights from a previous party, they were inexpensive from Ikea. So will work out in total at around £15, but I plan on selling the vases, plates, submersibles afterwards to get a little bit back
I would definately say go and have a look at sizes rather than just guessing with a ruler, I was surprised at how large the 15inch vase was when it arrived even though I'd had the tape measure out!:heartpuls dawnebabe :heartpuls0 -
Have been having a little look for vintage lanterns, these look nice, only £12 for 4 with free p&p
These look nice too, a little more expensive £4.85 each, but only 3 available, so would need to contact seller to see if they had more.
Or, there is 1/3 off at Confetti at the moment on their lanterns, plus free delivery with code FREEPOST (Ends this Sunday)

Be honest with the florist about what you can afford. Our table centres are costing £9 per table. Includes hire of tall vases, crystals in the bottom, 3 big lilies, 2 roses and some long stemmed grass. Looks lovely but waaaay cheaper than billions of flowers. And we're in the SOuth East.
Otherwise make friends with a florist/church warden and see if you can borrow their flower wholesaler card. We borrowed my Mum's friends one she uses for doing church flowers to go have a look - OMG vases etc are like Ikea prices and the flowers are dead cheap too if you're thinking of doing it yourself.
Good Luck0
