Under 25 driving in California

Hi everyone,
I was wondering if anyone could help.
Im wanting to rent a car to drive from San Diego to San Francisco next month. All in all I want the car for 23 days.
Problem is I'm only 24 so every car hire company I have tried charges up to $25 a day extra because of my age!
Does anyone know of any way around this or perhaps a company that offers a better deal for under 25s?
Any help would be hugely appreciated as this trip is already costing an arm and a leg without adding £750 for car hire!! Thanks!
