Hello,
Here's a link that I just saw on the Daily Mail website...
http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-1390044/Victory-mobile-user-unwittingly-racked-800-phone-holiday-Vodafone-hands-money-back.html
Worth a read - the guy got a bill for £800 whilse on holiday in America for using data, and claimed he didn't know he would get charged...
They've refunded him in full.
Some of the comments are also interesting.
Would be interesting to see what everyone thinks about this - I must say that I am suprised he got the refund, he used the data, they sent him a text saying he would be charged - it seems like he's saying he didn't understand it just to get out of the charge (sorry if that sounds judgemental, but if you go abroad you know it's going to cost more than at home, and if you get a text telling you when you arrive surely that's another clue!).

It's the fact that he got on the radio and into the Sunday times - the cost of writing off the bill is less than negligible than the possible negative publicity that would come from looking less than reasonable in those very public forums.0 -
True, but are Vodafone now starting to set a standard - what's to stop someone else calling up, claiming they didn't know they were going to get charged as they didn't understand, and demand a refund or threaten to take them to court?Give a girl the right shoes and she can conquer the world!

It too many people start to try it on they will make a stand. Its going to be down the money (isn't everything).0

Everything certainly is...I suppose my thinking was that now they've done this, if someone were to have the same situation, and then actually take them to court, would the court not see this example as being the standard that Vodafone themselves have set? If that makes sense.
I'm not with Vodafone by the way, just found it very interesting that they did do this - it still seems an odd thing to do.Give a girl the right shoes and she can conquer the world!

I doubt that very much. I'm sure all the payments made so far will be headed 'Without Prejudice' and have sections stating that they do not accept liability for the charges.
It'll be a payment without them accepting any fault. Their legal team will make sure that none of this sets a president for future actions.0 -

No because nothing actually happened *in* court.0 -
No, I know nothing happened in court this time - I mean in the future, if someone were to take a case to court, surely they could use this an example.Give a girl the right shoes and she can conquer the world!

Nope, it was not decided in court, Vodafone didn't let it get that far.
I daresay this has nothign to do with the user, and everything to do with the daily mail being involved and the resultant negative press
as has been suggested earlier.0
