The conclusion was that the boom in BTL had pushed up the price of property by 7%. Given that house prices have risen 125% it really doesn't account for much does it.
[edit] here's an FT article about the report
I'd say that it does.
Is it right that around 10% of UK residential property is owned by a landlord ? I reckon 7% of the average house price is a significant amount of money. 7% of the cost of an average FTBer property (£110K ?) is very significant to a FTBer. The fact is, the FTBer is in competition with the landlord, and if the FTBer can't afford the extra x%, they may well have to go to the landlord for shelter.
And with the apparent shortgage of property in the UK, if that 10% increases, I think the 7% will probably increase at a faster rate. And if being a landlord proves successful for the new breed of "I have another property that I rent out", then they are quite likely to think about, and be able to buy another place or two.30 Year Challenge : To be 30 years older. Your "as expected" is actually a dead on certainty, due to the loaded question you asked.

I'd say it takes a pretty big person to own up to their weaknesses, and not only that, confront and defeat them.
A little person is someone who mocks other people's weaknesses, IMO.30 Year Challenge : To be 30 years older. Equity : Don't know, don't care much. Savings : That's asking for ridicule.0 -

I would just like to apologise for my use of the word everything, as many others did see I was using in a way (commonly used in the english language) to which I didn't literally mean everything.
I am sorry as rather than getting answer out of chucky on the actual morals of rent charges and the greed which is pushing them upwards, instead I gave him a wriggle out card for him to pick on.
In short I would like to put this simple straight forward question to chucky:
In what way does the demand for more rental properties FORCE landlords to raise rent prices when in many cases the lower interest rates will mean there actual 'business' costs are less?Have my first business premises (+4th business) 01/11/2017
