I had a problem and saw many doctors and consultants who kept changing their diagnosis and in the end they gave up.

I searched on google, found a diagnosis that fit all of my symptoms even ones I didn't realise were related to my main condition.

My brother (in France where doctors are soo much better) got a confirmed diagnosis (its hereditary) after Google pointed us in the right direction.

I am still fighting my doctors to send me to a specialist to confirm that I have it also. It took my doctor 7 weeks to send off a letter to ask the PCT whether I can go to a specialist in London. Then I have to wait for the PCT to answer and IF they say its OK then I wait ages for the appointment. Doctors in the UK are rubbish

Indeed. Just as some doctors in the UK are rubbish.

Ridiculous generalisations such as the above are not helpful.

You will find good, bad and excellent doctors in all countries.

Just because you find a bad doctor in country A and your husband/brother/milkman finds a good doctor in country B does not mean that everyone will have the same experiences in those two countries.

There is a risk that the woowoo sellers are treated with equal authority as NHS Direct etc when googled. The woowoo sellers have huge budgets (if you sell worthless treatments for big money, you have advertising budget) to sell acai berries/goji berries/noni berries/aloe vera/the next exotic cureall, at staggering markups, with the help of weak anecdotes and not be burdened by annoying 'science', 'evidence' and 'facts'.

By all means look stuff up on respectable sites as mentioned above - it takes some weight off the NHS for repeatable stuff - but there are some VERY dodgy motives behind some of the other 'helpful' sites out there.

All the doctors I have met so far have been rubbish. And I have met a lot in 4 different counties.

    Is that better?

And some don't know what they are talking about. I told one doctor my research. She looked it up (spelling it completely wrong and I had to correct her), took a random symptom, checked me and told me I didn't have it and she wasn't referring me to a specialist. She didn't even choose a common symptom.

My brother and I started trying to get our diagnosis about 5 years ago. He was diagnosed about 4 years ago by his doctors in France. And I am still trying. I think I'm going to give up with the NHS and pay for treatment in France because at least I will get some where.

When i was diagnosed with cancer the first thing the specialist nurse said to me "for god sakes don't search online for any information, i'm not going to lie half of it is nonsense, the other half is the worst case scenario - if you MUST go looking for information, only trust the CRUK & MacMillan sites, the rest of it is probably just hysterical american stuff which will scare you".

Still it was worth a giggle to give it a quick google just to find out - i think that's probably the best advice given by any nurse in history, cos half of it was codswallop!

    Not really.

It almost certainly implies that you are being unreasonable in your expectations. Either that or you have been extremely unfortunate.

I have a condition that affects 1 in 10,000 people. The NHS don't like sending people for tests if they can help it to save money. They just assume with those odds I can't have it and don't bother sending me for the tests that I need to confirm it, especially as its a specialised test.
