Took my littlist man to hospital yesterday for results of test he has been having - i thought they would say he's fine go home.... Only half his tests have come back - the other lot have been sent to a hosp in London.
Got home told hubby what had been said (he had to stay behind to collect dd from school) he called his mum as she had asked us to... 5 minutes getting off the phone from her my SIL is posting on my facebook page about the various degrees of this problem which one has he got the treatments etc...
Why always google it??? I was happy with what consultant had told me and the plan for the way forward, more tests and a neuroligist opion... and now i know things i dont think i am ready for and will be worring me as we dont even have an appointment date for the specialist (wait for letter)
Google can be fantastic yes - but why must people google medicall problems - then people think they are experts...

I'm more bothered about people posting private meical matters on FB it really annoys me how people have to share every little detail of their life.
When my hubby's cancer was diagnosed the consultant told me to look on the internet so we'd have a good idea of what to expect. It saved his time as he didn't have to give a long drawn out explaination of the procedures hubby would be having.
I looked on the 'proper' sites like Macmillan, NHS and Cancer Research.
I'm now learning about my own illnes divertiulitis, and it's been a help knowing now what I can and can't eat, the Addenbookes hospital site has a good diet sheet that I have printed off.
Doesn't help the wiating but at least I am a bit more informed about what to expect during the investigation and treatment.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Old style MoneySaving boards.

They do indeed. But the problem isn't google or the fact that your SIL wanted to find more out about her nephew's illness, it's that she then posted on facebook. She can do what she likes - if googling helps her then great. But she needs to respect you and not post stuff on your facebook page that upsets or alarms you. I'd have a word and ask her to stop doing this. Or can you husband mention it?

The web can be a great source of info and help with illnesses, but it can also end up making you worry as sites often show the worse case scenarios and put ideas in your head.
I would be very upset at someone posting details of my childs illness on FB. Surely that is info for you to give out, if and when you deem it appropriate?0 -

Ouch! Diverticulitis is painful! Good luck with keeping that under control, and hope your hubby's doing OK too. I follow your thread in the Arms about this x."Growth for growth's sake is the ideology of the cancer cell" - Edward Abbey.0 -

Personally I always look up medical stuff.
Often doctors simply dont have the time to give you much more than the basic info.
Doctors (especially older ones) may not be aware of new methods of treatment, it wont be the first time I have found things out on the net and brought them to my Doc's attention.
Doctors are not infalliable, they can get things wrong.
It does no harm (in fact I think it's very wise) to educate yourself on health matters that affect you and yours rather than placing all your trust in another, no matter how well trained they may be.
I don't think the problem is looking up info, it's the telling the world about it on FB that's the issue. Maybe you should reconsider where you direct your annoyance?Herman - MP for all!0 -
Thanks hun, I'm not controlling it very well, I just wish I knew how long the bad symptoms stick around for kind of thing.

I agree. I often look up stuff online, but I don't necessarily pass on my information, especially if it's negative. I wouldn't dream of telling someone all the bad things that 'could' happen. I would however tell them anything positive. I most certainly wouldn't post it on FB though, and I would be very upset if someone did that to me.0

My mum's doctor is useless, whenever my mum goes to see her, she say, "You've got the internet, look your symptoms up on google." And that's it.
Well, the few times she has given any form of opinion, or diagnosis, it's been wrong... I've been telling my mum to change doctors, but she seems to have an unnatural loyalty to this one.0 -

ive no idea why people have to post that they're bored or post medical matters on fb either, people get too involved in facebookand feel the need for everyone to know what they're doing/feeling etc
some of the stuff thats posted by people i know is mind boggling,0 -
If you type most symptoms you might have in google, youll find that in almost all scenarios you have cancer. Not normally best to go down that route for medical advice, although google probably does contain every answer we have well answered.0
