Save on Gas, Electric and Water - Shower at work?

Thanks everyone.0

I can't imagine doing that. You'd have to get up and put dirty clothes on and travel to work taking clean clothes with you. It all sounds a bit yuck. Or you could put clean clothes on and take more clean clothes with you and then spend more money with a bigger wash load.0

Save on coffee - take a vacuum flask-ful home.
Save on stationery.
Save on lightbulbs.
Save on ISP contracts and browse the web at work.
Save on phone calls.
Save on ladies of the night.
Save on laptops.

I suppose this thread could be considered how far do we take things to save money? It is admirable the OP wants to cut bills as much as possible, and if a shower is provided for employee use then why not? However I wouldn't leave the house knowing I needed a shower first, and I am a keen water preserver. Before I could reach the shower in my office I would have to come through the foyer, past reception and security, in a lift to the fourth floor (and it is a busy office so the lift would be full), then across the floor to a toilet area where the shower is. If I had cycled in and I didn't smell of stale sweat I am sure no-one would bat an eyelid at me freshening up before starting work. If I already stunk from needing a shower I would imagine some unhappy co-workers would be holding discussions behind my back how best to approach me to talk about it.0

Yeah, well it was just a thought really because I will be cycling most mornings and I wondered if not using the shower at home would see any of my bills decrease. Sadly it seems most people are far too interested in making fun or belittling. Not exactly a nice welcome to the forums.0

I wouldn't take some of the comments too seriously, people aren't having a dig they are just making a bit of light banter, we really are a nice bunch generally.
Undoubtedly your bills will drop, you need to be realistic though and balance this off with if you think it is reasonable to arrive at your workplace without having showered. If you think it is, and it won't cause a problem, go for it. For others, particularly like me in an office environment, it would cause a problem.
An average shower should take about five minutes. If you use more than this try to cut down. Set an egg timer as you get in the shower to help you work this out - some people don't realise how long they take. If you use a hairdryer afterwards make sure your hair is towelled well first. This also helps. If you have a lot of energy use generally (how much are your monthly bills?) then this may not make a massive difference but it's all about making small changes to change your usage habits. If you are a low user already then this could make a large difference.
Generally speaking a five minute shower will cost anywhere between 10 - 20p (depending if gas/electric and how much water used). Power showers will be double that. You should use less than 9 litres of water per minute. To find out how much you are using, put the shower head in a two litre jug. It should take at least 14 seconds to fill. If it fills faster than this you are using too much water, you can get devices to slow the flow rate down (some are free).
Please don't think you are unwelcome though, you are, we just like a bit of light-hearted humour too and the question you've asked is one of the more unusual variety on here.0
