A couple that havnt been mentioned yet that i remember; in the 70's, prior to the Sunny and Cherry, Datsun did a 120 and a ?140. I dont think i ever saw a single one of those that wasnt rusted to bits.

Also, anyone remember a Simca? East european budget car prior to the mass influx of Lada Rivas.

    Happy days.

My OH had a Datsun Cherry when we met. An old girlfriend had kicked his door and her foot had gone right through. :rotfl:

The Russian Klondykers used to come to our harbour and you'd see lots of Lada's on deck when they sailed away. I don't think they could get the parts in Russia and they'd buy the cars up when they were over here.

Learned to drive in a brand new Austin 1300GT, pretty good for a motoring school car in the 70's.

    Mini, Cortina mk2 1.3, Hillman Imp, Marina 1300, Marina 1.8TC, Ital 1.7, Talbot Horizon 1.3, Peugeot 405GTX, Rover 214SEI, Focus 1.6.

    I feel old now :o

It's just occurred to me, because I had forgotten it.
My first car in 1958, was a 1928 Austin 7 built into a two seat special with aluminium wings and bonnet, and plywood body panels. Painted bright red, with a big black eagle on the bonnet, and christened in writing as "Ickabod II".)
    Cost me £15.
My next in 1965 (RAF inbetween) was a 1959 Austin Cambridge MkII. Good car, as long as you didn't want a heater that worked.
Triumph Herald Estate, Hillman Minx Mk5, Cortina MkII 1600, A few bangers as I tried buying and selling i.e. MG Magnette, Ford Capri (early one, not the popular one)
I can't remeber where I went from there, because cars had ceased to be so important to me. I buy new run of the mill nowadays. Mondeo, Focus etc.

Renault 9, Renault 11, Renault 12, Renault Fuego, Peugeot 304, Peugeot 305, Peugeot 205. Escort XR3i, RS 1600i, Renault 5, Renault 14, Renault 18, Misubishi Colt Sapporo( anybody know how to spell it), Fiat 131 Mirafiori(In Orange!!!!)

These are ones that were popular in the Town I grew up in, as you can see the Peugeot and Renault were by far the biggest players when I was growing up.

I must admit that my parents never had many issue with their French cars, in fact after 15 yrs in Fords they went back to a 207 during scrappage.

These were average, run of the mill cars from the 1970s and early 80s. Together, they sold over 1.5 million, and were common place on the roads. The opening post makes no reference to desirability or reliability in any way.
