Amazon Xmas order delays

Options
I usually do most of my Xmas shopping offline but this year i'd planned to do it all online at Amazon. Big mistake!! It never occurred to me i'd have to place the orders in summer to make sure I received them by Xmas

On October 28th I placed an order for 4 items all of which were in stock when I ordered them. One of those items has had to be cancelled because they couldn't get it to me before January. Strange then that my cancelled item (crayola stickers galore) has just been reduced by 99p.

On 11th November I placed an order for 21 items all of which were either in stock or are "usually dispatched in 1-2 weeks". The estimated dispatch date kept being put back and in the end I had to cancel the whole lot. I wasn't about to wait until January for my Sons Xmas presents.

I've ordered from Amazon dozens of times and have never had cause for complaint until now. Fair enough i've not lost out on anything and there's still plenty of time for me to shop elsewhere, BUT I spent so much time (literally hours) searching the whole site for these things i'd ordred. Now i've got to start all over again

I did contact Amazon to let them know i'm not happy but they just fobbed me off.

Next Xmas I think i'll stick to the offline method.

in the past amazon have had a really good reputation for customer service but I've noticed a lot more complaints about them recently.

It will be a shame if they are yet another co who get too big for their boots and think they can trade on former good service alone.
  • out of interest did you select to have all items sent in one order or to be sent as and when they are ready? i always select as and when each item is available and have no probs. but a family member always used to select as one order and always always had to wait months and months for their stuff. now they ask for as and when available and like me have no probs. seems a coincidence so i just wondered what your experience is of this "phenomena"!
good luck in the madding crowd of offline shopping x

This is an excellent site, and they sell a lot of the stuff Amazon does.

They have never once messed me about:

You can tell a lot about a woman by her hands..........for instance, if they are placed around your throat, she's probably slightly upset. ;)

i have avoided amazon this year entirely!!!!

as others have said they used to be fantastic, but now there service is appaling. I ordered a book in june for mother in laws birthday in july. the delivery date kept getting put back and put back until i finally got a cancellation email from them in november!!!!! saying they couldnt get the book. it took them that long to realise

no play.com are doing books and lots of otehr stuff, i have ordered most of it from there. they are about the same price, no delivery charges and they they get delivered a hell of a lot quicker than amazon!!
  • Play are wonderful till things go wrong - then they are hell on earth. Only got anywhere with them after I got trading standards involved  I'd still use them again mind as the prices are cheap and I know what to do now if things go wrong with them :rotfl:

Amazon is a victim of its own success - but after last years mess they made of things you would have thought they'd have learnt by now. I use super saver delivery but they still disptach things seperately so I've had half my order but the other half won't be disptached till the end of the week and one item has now got no disptach date at all   Good job that wasn't a present (just some relief form the awful xmas tv) but the rest of the order is so now I'm worried
  • dont forget cdwow also... cheap as chips free delivery too. use the searchbots and chances are you will find a lot of other places cheaper than amazon. are you buying from marketplace sellers?

I have also been avoiding Amazon. Got very fed up ordering something that they had in stock to then get a dispatch date four weeks later. Only use them now if I end up with vouchers from research sites etc, and then for things that I am in no great hurry for.

Play.com have always been good for me.

CD Wow I am currently miffed with, having pre-ordered Frasier Season 5 on the 19th November. Release date, 27th Nov came and went. Emailed last week and was told new dispatch date 8th Dec. No dispatch, emailed again and was told they don't know when they will get it from the supplier. Told them in the first place it was a christmas present, so if it is not dispatched by midweek I am going to cancel (funnily enough they took the money on the 19th Nov)

The only thing that keeps me using websites is the price difference from hmv and other high street shops.
