Refund of unused flight taxes

When I was a travel agent in the dim and distant past, if a customer cancelled a flight, we used to refund the "unused" taxes on the flight booking. Is this still correct? It seems only fair that if a flight is cancelled then the tax element of the flight should be refunded?

I agree that is often the case. I guess my question should be (amendment fees aside) Is the customer entitled to a refund of unused taxes? Sometimes the taxes can be a lot of money0

The customer is entitled to a refund of APD if s/he asks for it, but as cityboy says often the airlines levy an admin charge which wipes out the refund. EasyJet will refund the duty in full.0
