Citizen card review?

Hi,

Not sure if this is the right place to post please move if it isn't :).

Has anyone had any positive experinces with the new updated '100% proof' citizen card?
http://www.citizencard.com/

I know in the past the citizen cards have not been accepted in most places due to fake cards being made easily, but now there is the new card I was thinking of getting it, is it worth it?

Thanks,

Emma

heres a watchdog review, although im not entirely sure of when it was written exactly -

..but there are definately still some horror stories, eg from last year -

I was thinking of getting one of these cards for a senior relation with no ID, so they could use easyjet. They may be going down south to london from Inverness, and didnt want to go through the fuss of having to pay for an expensive passport, since they're not actually going abroad. I used to think that part of the problem with "citiZencard" may have been in its overall design. Although fairly basic, its citiZencard logo didnt always make it look that professional, despite being a government approved card. I think its definately become more widely used and known now in 2011 than say, five years ago, most big brand supermarkets will accept them, and an email from easyjet also verified this as a form of ID, but pubs (and especially nightclubs) may be still a bit hit or miss. Of course the real issue will always be with staff you show the ID to-since they have the final word, can say no just for the sake of it, they think the card is fake, have never heard of the card, or are likely not even taught about such cards or to look for any government approved logos (such as the one thats now on citizencard). The latest card with the logo may be harder to fake than before, but many staff, wherever you are, may still turn them down as they dont know the difference between the old and new. £15 (or less) for a card is not too much money in comparison to a passport-something id certainly not want to carry with me all the time anyway. If you want one for alcohol or getting into clubs, it should work for some, and being at half the price of a passport or less, if its accepted half the time, works out about right. Not that thats the way it should work!! :(

Hopefully some users that have recently bought and tried out citizencard can give more of an insight, but if Citizencard put some effort into their advertising, eg via one or more of the most popular television channels, they would surely benefit and be far more accepted than ever.
  • If your thinking about getting an I'd card from CitizenCard then don't. I sent my application form off on the 5th of January and because I hadn't heard anything for a while (they said it takes 28 days to process) I emailed them to ask when I'll be receiving it. I got a reply back saying that they will send it to me on the 13th of February.
I emailed them on the 4th of March, 2 months after sending off my application, and they said that they will post it today on the 6th. Do not use them for anything, its only suppost to take 28 days and I've been waiting over 2 months, funny when they took the £15 straight away!!
  • CitizenCard rarely experiences a failure of systems, issuing thousands of cards each month, but on this occasion we did. Having investigated the cause we found your application was part of a single batch missed by our systems at the final stage of triggering the issue of the card itself. After being contacted by email on 5 March to let us know that the card had still not been received we issued the card on 6 March.

CitizenCard would like to apologise for the inconvenience the delay has caused and will issue you and others affected with a full refund. MSE members should be confident that we do meet the turnaround deadlines specified in our terms and conditions, which is within 28 days for a standard application and 1-2 working days for an urgent application, subject to the correct information being received with the application and successful completion of verification checks. However on the rare occasions when there are delays within our control we make every effort to dispatch the card as soon as we become aware.
