I've got Sygate and Norton Internet Security, following advice on here I've disabled Sygate. However, it does still start up and I wondered what's the danger when running two? Does it slow things down or might I have problems accessing some sites. Don't appear to have any probs. Shoul I prevent Sygate from starting up?

Just a point on the SP2 comments. At the moment you can choose not to download SP2 on to your machine. It has some security fixes that stop some apps from working properly apparently so some people aren't keen.
From April, Microsoft will be automatically upgrading those PCS which do not have SP2 via "Windows Updater" so those users who let the updater install everything without checking need to be aware. Their software may suddenly stop working after the install of SP2.
I'm not a techie but I write an eNewsletter for our customers keeping them up to date on IT news and I read about this earlier this week. Thats for our customers more for Ryland Technology, the owners of Housenet.co.uk.
Hope this info helps someone out there....

I have posted elsewhere about problems in clearing kerio pf from my computer because the latest download of Zone Alarm insisted that I still had it installed. So I could not install the update for ZA. I have tried everything to resolve this but in the end decided to uninstall ZA and installed Sygate. This seems to be working perfectly and is unobtrusive, BUT is it as good ??
You don't get the same amount of information about attacks as ZA and kerio, but I tested it free with Shields UP!! (https://www.grc.com) and it passed OK!.
Also if anyone is looking for a good Spyware system have just downloaded SpywareDoctor from http://www.download.com/ and that is a really good free Spyware tool."0844 COSTS YOU MORE"0 -

Get some hardware, like a router with built in firewall. Cheap 'uns on eBay. The main benefit being more resources/memory on your PC.
edit: In response to the original firewall recommendations but recommended all the same. If you're sharing PCs, they're hooked up as a network and all are protected behind the firewall.0 -
networked the whole thing for £4........that was the point of going for cheap cable option
only want to use the 2nd pc at the weekendEx forum ambassador

I've only just read about this. The free version of zonealarm does not support networking.
I wonder how many people have had trouble networking their PCs not realising this? How many surrealists does it take to change a lightbulb?

True. Or rather, it's Internet Connection Sharing that's the problem, possibly. I at last persuaded friends to install it in a 4 PC office; didn't work.Rex_Mundi wrote:I've only just read about this. The free version of zonealarm does not support networking.

I found the answer on ZA forums later; took a look overnight at the site of one of the gurus there; started to think maybe it was possible to set it all up; sent links in email.
By the time I got to work, too late - all deleted. So I haven't looked further.
I don't like thinking of people's PC's being unprotected by firewall, WUpdate etc, with my email address in there
ZAPro would be ok0
