I'd be very surprised if the Council is authorising it's employees to do this, how can they give paying work to one business rate paying business in the area at the expense of any other?. Make sure your get a receipted invoice.

That is the point I was trying to make. My local council won't even recommend tradesmen and local businesses, let alone sub work out.

I have no idea why this site makes out like council run test centres are the best place to take your car for an MOT. They're there to make money like any other garage and are no more or less impartial than anywhere else. Mine does garage services/repairs - that's the original point of them, to repair council owned vehicles and so they also offer repair services to punters who take their car there.

Who's to say they're not more picky than your average independent MOT garage? The bottom line is take it for a second opinion elsewhere if you're not happy, or shop around if it genuinely needs the work doing.

Local government is currently being squeezed very tightly with jobs going left right and centre. A cynic might say that the council garages are looking for work more so than before!

To be honest, you could have said 'no ta, I'll take it somewhere else'...

but, you thought the price was OK...and if you can't weld / don't have the tools or place to do it... it was a good price.

I could get my son to weld it for nothing and charge you £350...now thats a mark-up.

No problem can withstand the assault of sustained thought.
Only after the last tree has been cut down. Only after the last fish has been caught. Only after the last river has been poisoned. Only then will you realize that money cannot be eaten.
