Hi I've 2 android phones with 2.1 a sony x10 mini rooted and a vodafone 845.
2 questions
1: Is there any where in wiltshire that would install a rom on either to give a 2.2 effct ,or
2: whats the best best to buy a cheap 2.2 phone

1. I think there is not and will never be 2.2 for SE Mini.
2. I think you can install 2.2 on Orange San Francisco available for about £1000 -
There are plenty of ROMs available 2.2 or 2.3 see http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=726 .There are guides on there on how to install0

thats the problem I know about the roms tried it on the 845 messed it and bricked the phone . I managed to unbrick it but i'm not confidant to try again .0

Huawei Ideos 1850, (company makes a large number of branded phones and dongles) got mine from ebay for £112 delivered. Great phone with Android 2.2 and completely unlocked. So good (and cheap) both my son and a couple of friends bought them as well. Couldn't be more pleased.0

You might find a guy with a store that can do a rom upgrade .
