sadly the Law is an !!!....and by that I mean, barristers, solicitors etc will happily sit and chat over coffee, dine out, meet socially etc....but may end up opposing each other at some stage...not unlike footballers....they play the game...win lose or draw...and after....they are friends again....unfortunately, even though its difficult to get into the CPS, they don't have the best advocates, probably the pay scales are at fault here, they tend not to do well in a lot of cases...but it is a game....yes some fortunate solicitors, barristers can choose who they work for and ultimately, people are entitled to a defence, that is how the law works...
but not every solicitor or barrister should be tarred with the same brush because of their choice in who they defend...
taken to the extreme, you end up with a situation like in Northern Ireland where two prominant members of the legal profession were murdered because of the clients they chose to represent....is this what the OP would like to see....because ultimately...the law is the law....like it or loath it....you cannot cherrypick who deserves a good defence....if the prosecution screw up and lose the case...who's fault is it then...it's a game....No two ways about this one: Anything Free is not a Basic Right..it had to be earned...by someone, somewhere0 -

Wat?
Would you prefer that they all kept themselves to themselves and spent their spare time snarling at each other?
They are professionals. Each is trying to do the very best job they can to represent the case of their client. There are two types of people in the world: Those that can extrapolate information.0 -

the point I am making IS...the Law is an a$$...and that the legal profession are playing a game...hence my pointing out that they ARE friends and the game only starts in the court rooms...its not the legal profession where the problems lie...its the Law itself...advocacy skills vary...its like winning a debate....its a game...solicitors and barristers are simply the players...I may not like the results of some cases or who people choose to defend....but until they change the rules...we all have to play the game...and as such...its not always who we see as true and just that will win...
perhaps a re-read of my post will be clearer now...;)No two ways about this one: Anything Free is not a Basic Right..it had to be earned...by someone, somewhere0 -
My goodness, another bizarre MSE thread where a professional is slagged off for doing his or her job well. Oooh - I could crush a grape!0

The adversarial system of criminal justice is something that has been developed over centuries in a never ending attempt to find an optimum balance between the rights of the accused (who is, after all, innocent until proven guilty) and the rights of actual victims and society in general to protect themselves from those who would do wrong.
Whilst you may believe that you could sit down by yourself and devise a better system it is almost certainly the case that you could not. There are two types of people in the world: Those that can extrapolate information.0 -

you're not in politics are you?....yet again you miss the point and try to avoid the OP and then my posts in defence of those who have to work within the (flawed) system, which as you say has been developed over centuries ( but doesn't make it good) it's constantly evolving, not always for the better...but its all there is....so we play the game....No two ways about this one: Anything Free is not a Basic Right..it had to be earned...by someone, somewhere0 -

:rotfl:
If anyone is missing the point, it's you.
Over hundreds of years a multitude of professionals; politicians, barristers, judges, solicitors and academics have worked to refine the legal system to provide the best balance that they can between its conflicting objectives.
Of course it's not perfect - it never will be - simply because the objectives do conflict. There are two types of people in the world: Those that can extrapolate information.0
