Oven packed in, any ideas?

hello
We have a de longhi oven/grill which has been in the house when it was rented out. The Oven/grill has no sign of life at all, it has a sealed plug. Hubby checked the electrical socket which is working fine.
It has hardly been used, must have conked out with the tenant as it is obviously been rarely used and is still like new inside.

Any ideas? or should we just bin it rather than spend on an expensive repair man. It was bought new, but quite cheap from comet.

Can you get someone out just to have a look?
Depends on the cost of a new one, obviously but we have a local company that has a £35 call out charge, and if you decide the repair isn't worth carrying out, they'll knock the £35 off the cost of a new one if you buy it from them.

Have you checked the wires running to the back of the cooker one wire may have come loose and lost contact.

Another thing to check is the wire from the plug to the cooker could have a fractured i have seen this before, wire looks ok from the outside but broken on the inner, sometimes it happens when the wire has been squashed.

Make sure cooker is turned off first and upluged before trying i hope that don't sound patronising. :)

Before it went off, was both the grill and oven working.

A model number would help. ;)

But, first things first, check it's not on automatic as that's the No1 most common issue with a dead oven, generic instructions I've written and you can read them here.

Once you check that or, have the tenant check, then you start to look at other things. But, 99.9% of the time, if both the oven and grill are dead, it's something to do with a clock or timer on it.

TBH though Delonghi parts are usually not too bad so an independent engineer should be able to fix it without huge costs. The average repair cost from the indies is less than £70. ;)

I had to reset the clock to get grill and oven to work after a power cut. Took me about an hour to find this out. Doh......

When mine went off it was the element which is a pretty common fault, but if both the oven and grill went off at the same time it probably want be that. I think i paid about £25 on-line and fixed it myself, it's not a difficult job.

Hi thanks for all your replies!

The plug and cable have been checked.

The grill and oven were working before it conked out.

Kwatt thanks for your link. The model number is ESF461 ST/ST
The timer on it is just a knob that gets turned and it is in 15 minute markers up to 105 minutes, does that mean it's nothing to do with that?

Odd socks I am going to pass info to hubby tonight because I imagine it would be squashed being pushed in and out of space.

Couldn't have come at a worse time, we are going through bankruptcy, so finances not great

One more thing, check the terminal block at the back of the cooker hasn't burnt out, happens a lot.

It sounds like a minute minder type so no, the clock can't cause it to go completely dead.

It looks like a fairly basic Delonghi oven so there's only a few things it can be that's wrong and, I'll give you a few links but they're for my site so, fair warning and if mods want to remove the links please feel free to so. I just can't be bothered fluffing about the net looking for other's listings.

The first port of call would be the terminal block, it's obvious and if its gone then it's obvious.

Second would be the safety thermostat, this should be mounted on the top of the oven cavity, it should be this part or look very similar. Because there's a cooling fan in that one (or should be) there may be a monitor thermostat as well and, of course, the main oven stat.

If that's okay, all that's really left is the selector switch (this one) and, again, anything wrong should be pretty obvious.

I can't think on anything else that could cause it to go dead like that, if it were an element then the other/s should work okay regardless.

    HTH
