Hiya
Does anyone know how long the letting agent is able to keep the bond for until they release it?

Is this an assured shorthold tenancy in England/Wales?
If so, is the deposit protected and have you checked the scheme's website for timelines re return of the deposit?0 -
Hi
Sorry for the delayed reply! Yeah, it's an assured short hold tennancy in Wales. I rented the property through a letting agent and they won't give me any information and I can't find any information on who the scheme is with.0 -
Phoebe - you may want to remove the LA's name from your post so as to limit the possibility of you being IDd, should the LA be partial to trawling this board
.
Your LL should have passed the scheme's "prescribed information" on to you *if* they have registered your deposit.
You can check online with each of the the 3 schemes - mydeposits, TDS, DPS.
What should happen is that within 10 days of the end of your tenancy the LL/LA returns your deposit in full or confirms in writing to you that they wish to make a deduction. You then agree or not: they must return any undisputed amount to you and you have the choice of using the schme's arbitration process or the small claims court to seek resolve.0 -
Thanks forthe reply.
I'll remove the name now. :P
Well we left on the 14th May and they did the inspection on the 16rh but said the landlady then wanted to see it too? And we've heard nothing since and they're refusing to answer my quesitons on the basis they have 21 days to give it back!0 -
In which case get on with checking for yourself whether that deposit *is* in fact registered - if it is you should have personal log on info for the scheme. Once you know whether the LL/LA has complied with the law you can remind them that they are obliged to work within the scheme rules on timescales: talk to the schemes direct0

I went onto the TDS website and typed in the letting agent name in the seach box, and it came up with them. I take it this means they're registered with TDS?0
-
You need to check that *your deposit* is registered

I think you need to type in the full postal address of the property0
-
Ahhh right okay I see! Yeah, it's not with them! Lol0

Okay, I've found it, for some reason it wouldn't show on my name, but did from my partners. We're both registered on the certificate I've just viewed online. But anyways, I've sent them an email. So it is 10 workings days they're meant to give it back?0
