  • Asda I believe still give a full refund if the tv is within its year warranty. They use to give a 3 year warranty on all tvs sold but folk abused it by coming back with their alledgely faulty tvs just before the 3 years were up,they got them replaced with a newer model and money refunded as the price had dropped. These goods were never inspected first as it would cost Asda £50.00 to have an Engineer test them.

Why on earth to people keep buying Technika TVs? As the saying goes, you get what you pay for.

Because they're cheap & cheerful TVs - we've bought 3 (for ourselves and relatives) and haven't had any problems in the 3 years since they were bought. Not everyone can afford top-end kit (or perhaps they just want a cheap TV for a bedroom), which in itself isn't guaranteed to be any better than cheaper brands like Technika. Sounds like you're a bit of an AV snob.

Hope someone can help. Purchased a Technika 32inch tv from Tesco just short of 2 years ago from their Ebay Outlet. Within 7 days I had to have it replaced as the tv was not working and the blue standby light continually flashing. Now after nearlly 2 years the same thing has happened again to this tv.
I have spoken to Tesco and they say there is nothing we can do to repair, replace or even partial refund etc. Under the sale of goods act is this correct? As I have read somewhere, some people have had a partial refund.

After doing several searches online for the fault, several people have had similar if not the same problem. So it seems to me that there is a fault with the Technika brand. This is my sons tv and he is gutted and I would have expected a tv to last far longer than 2 years.

Sale of Goods Act states that a product should last a reasonable length of time. Obviously you think a TV should last over 2 years, Tesco think less.

To pursue this you need to write to Tesco, saying the fault has returned and you don't consider 2 years an acceptable lifetime for the product. (You probably don't need the independent report saying the fault is inherent, as it seems to be the same fault as before, though Tesco may insist on this later).

To be honest though, Technika is a cheap, bottom of the range brand, so you'd expect it to have a limited lifetime. On top of that even if they agree, they can offer a refund which takes into account the use you've had - so if they up it to 3 years lifetime, you'd still only get 30% of the original cost back. You're probably better just writing it off and buying new.
