in Credit cards
Hi,
I applied for a MBNA credit card online to take advantage of their 0% balance transfer...They called me last Monday to say they were happy to proceed with my application and that I would receive my new card shortly.
I have as sush been eagerly awiting my new card all week, then this morning I received a letter to advise my application had been declined!
Their offices for new apps are closed 'till moday so I can't release some of my frustration on them just yet!!
Has anyone else experienced a problem like this, how was it resolved/what should I do??

Wait until Monday and ring up and don't get mad, it will just rub them up the wrong way, it isn't the customer service representatives fault. Yes they are idiots but it isnt going to help being rude. It could just be a mix up and the decline letter has been sent by mistake.

Good advice, I will be nice. It's just so disappointing. How can they send a blank faced letter...When they called me they were so nice and cool, then I get a declined letter.

The word to use with them to describe how you feel, when you ring, is "disappointed". This seems to make people want to help you in any way they can. "Annoyed" just puts them on the defensive... but anyway, I think you got the point from your other reply

Hope you get sorted.
HFMEverything turns out all right in the end. If it's not all right, it's not the end.

Do you think,
the thing is it's dated the 4th December, they spoke to me on the same day?0 -
I'm not sure but
bank I work for - system may decline which generates a letter from head office. But then if is sent to underwriters they may appeal that decision - I think you are just going to have to speak to them. Sorry0 -
I had this with hsbc, and cynical old me thinks they got the number of customers they wanted on the 0% for 9 moths as they cut it to 6 months the week after. Anyway, credit agreement arrived, "youve been approved...", I was told credit limit and card was in post on 2 occasions, then declined. Wasnt angry or aggressive when I called, went as far as chief executive, then told him what I thought of him and his company. Got accepted for m+s card however a couple of months ago, so no big deal, got 3.9% LOB.0

It could be that you are not on the list that they check your details about, I had a similar problem, but phoned them and because they could not find my employer's phone no on the list they were checking it against, they would not look on any alternative data for the info they needed. I was turned down after verbally being told I was accepted. I had to send copies of bank staements and then received the credit card.
So get on the phone to them on Monday, they are friendly, cos at the end of the day, they want your custom.0 -
I still think theres a fair chance the declined letter is a clerical error and you shouldn't have received it, in which case be nice, everyone makes mistakes and they may well tell you it was wrong and you will receive the card anyway. No big deal really is it?

Hi,
I called MBNA today and spoke to their application department, I spoke with a guy who didn't seem interested at all he advised me that there were no 'notes' on the system to say my application had been accepted and was in fact declined.
Eventually I managed to get the name of the underwriter who told me she'd passed me for a card, the guy would no put me through to her as he said he worked in a very large call centre and as such didn't know here.
I'm going to call back tomorrow and TRY to speak with her again, do you think it's worth it or am I wasting my time?:oI0
