Small trick to keep track of savings

227 Posts
Hi,
when I moved to my new apartment and had a heavy mortgage to pay back (luckily now it's done) I invented a trick to keep track of the money saved with small and painless changes in my lifestyle.
Everytime I made a saving like not buying something or buying it discounted, taking public transport, doing my hair at home instead of going to the hairdresser, etc., I wrote on a small piece of paper the amount I saved and put the paper into a saving pig. I was amazed how much the total was in a year.
This is only a psichological trick, but it's great fun and helps to come into the habit of saving money.
