I certainly wouldn't be happy for my elderly parents to rely on VOIP/mobiles in an emergency, and would always ensure they had a "proper" fixed telephone line in case of power cuts/network problems.

Fair enough and I already mentioned that in post #9.

BTW I'm well past the flush of youth myself.
