    what connecting symbol, inside IE or wireless software

    if IE, check the ie tools internet options, connection settings

    if wireless software, check encryption key and encryption type

    Have you updated Windows XP to the latest Service Pack(SP3)?

    If so, make sure the Windows is handling your Wireless connection.

    Then as closed suggests; check the security settings in the web interface of the router.
