hi mrochester
Don't think it has USB2. Is there anything I can do about that ??

You can tell if it has USB2:
Right click on My Computer
Select Manage
Under System Tools select Device manager
Scroll down to Universal serial bus controllers and click the little +
If one of them says Enhanced it's USB2
Mine says SiS PCI to USB Enhanced host controller
Be sure to plug in the dongle to a rear USB port - straight off the motherboard.
In my Opinion, It's much better using a Cat 5 Ethernet cable, just connect and go. No wireless set-up, no passwords, no worries.

Unfortunately there's no telephone point in the room ! So will have to stick with a dongle or similar.0 -
Powerline sockets are an alternative, but a bit more expensive.British Ex-pat in British Columbia!0

If your Belkin router complies with the Wireless 'N' standard, then consider this. You may get a little more range if the PC is far away from the router.
Currently using an 11 year old PC running XP through a wireless dongle, no problems. I also connect a 14 year old laptop running Win 98 with a pcmcia wireless card.0 -
Yeh, for that age of a pc, i'd go with the homeplug / powerline option.
You'll need a network port on the pc though, which would not have been standard issue 10 years ago.0 -

Yes, perhaps avoid this particular card. Seems to work fine for some and intermittently for others.0 -
Ok guys,
I went for the Belkin N USB Dongle. All set up (!). Dongle is receiving fair to good strength signal. Trying to connect to the internet. The connecting symbol displays but eventually i get a message saying can't connect to the internet.
Any thoughts out there ?
