Have you tried it with an ethernet cable?
Checked the adaptor settings, e.g. TCP/IP? Reset TCP/IP stack?0 -
fluffnutter. I have tried Firefox. IE was on the laptop.
She has all sorts of kids stuff on here, twitter, facebook,IM and school work.
She's away on a school trip until the week end so i have no way knowing what she wants kept. The laptop was an Xmas present and i think all the crap that was pre-loaded is still on here.
Sorry, I assumed Defender was just an AV program. Sounds like it does more."Growth for growth's sake is the ideology of the cancer cell" - Edward Abbey.0 -

- To open a command prompt, click Start and then click Run. Copy and paste (or type) the following command in the Open box and then press ENTER:cmd
- At the command prompt, copy and paste (or type) the following command and then press ENTER:netsh int ip reset c:\resetlog.txt
Note If you do not want to specify a directory path for the log file, use the following command:netsh int ip reset resetlog.txt - Reboot the computer.

RussJK. I did what you said but the problem is still here.
I have done a system restore from over a month ago but that never worked.
The laptop was being connected to Virgin broadband and at my house its Sky. I have got it connected wireless to my router and as i said before i can use Windows update and i have downloaded the updates ok but i wont let me connect via IE or Firefox.
I have uninstalled the wireless card and then rebooted and reinstalled but still no good.

Well i have fixed the problem.
She had norton internet security installed that came with the laptop.
I was talking to her this morning and she said she was doing some "computer housework" and she just deleted the norton folder from the c drive about a month ago and that was when the problem started.
I tried running the uninstall part i wouldn't work.
Went to windows7 forum and they said download norton removal tool and it worked a treat.
Thanks for all your help.

Aah, thought it was the AV software. Norton's bad enough when it's installed properly, let alone when someone's had a fiddle with it!
Glad you resolved it."Growth for growth's sake is the ideology of the cancer cell" - Edward Abbey.0 -
Explains why you couldn't say what AV was on
A hijackthis log as asked by closed would have found that. 0
