My mates kids laptop will not connect to the internet.
I took the laptop to my home and when i connected through wireless to my router all is ok but when i click IE browser button the browser pops up and says cannot display webpage.
I tried windows update and i can download the updates so the laptop can be connected to the internet but will not connect through the browser.
I have run Malwarbytes and anti-spyware and the problem is still there.
Its Windows 7 and there are no problems in the device manager.

Any ideas on this please.

There should be a Tools button top right hand side of the browser, have you checked to see if "work offline" is ticked? If it is untick it and that should do the job.

What AV software is installed? It might be a firewall problem.

Check the proxy settings on the Connections tab on the IE properties (I'm on XP so I can't give you the Windows 7 path I'm afraid). If Proxy Server (on the LAN connections bit) is ticked, try unticking it.

on a £100 shop you might on average get 70 items save
    10p per product = £7 a week ~ £28 a month
    20p per product = £14 a week ~ £56 a month
30p per product = £21 a week ~ £84 a month (or in other words one weeks shoping at the new price)

I have put on firefox and the problem is still there.
The kid is down as the administrator and parental control is ok.
The LAN settings for proxy seem ok.
It seems weird that the laptop will connect and download updates for Windows and for Defender but not the internet.

Could you try a different browser? Download using another pooty, transfer on stick. Don't use chrome though as this uses the IE settings.

    Edit: You've tried this.
