internet in italy

Hi
This is my first post I hpe you can help.
I am planning a trip taveling round italy. I undersrand that free WIFI
access is hard o find there.
I also have a smart phone but I am scared of using the internet while i am abroud becaause of the costs.
Any ideas how I can keep conected with the net.
Local sims have been suggested but where would you obtain these.
any other suggestions please

Have you actually asked your mobile service provider what the costs would be in Italy, or whether they offer any special rates for use abroad? - mobile internet overseas doesn't have to be expensive. How much are you planning on using it? just to check the occasional email, or more heavily?

Forget about using your mobile telephone for Internet whilst abroad using a UK SIM. If you are a very, very light user and on T-Mobile you can purchase a Booster that will give you 50MB for £10. But that is paltry.

In Italy there are a few options; Wind, 3, TIM, Vodafone....
